I discovered that yesterday when I phoned to change an appointment with my ophthalmologist.

I found out on Facebook that Nolic is back in hospital with Sepsis. According to his post the medics reckon it is off the back of the UTI that he was hospitalised with in January. I hope they can get on top of it quickly and he can make a speedy recovery.

I've had mail. He was bad but is now recovering well and ready to get out. Good news.....

That sounds like a long time ago for sepsis to take hold only now. It's usually dangerously fast so it would have had to hang around all that time and only now enter the bloodstream.

Only relating what Colin posted on his Facebook feed which is what the medics told him. He is now on oral antibiotics so is hoping that he can come home, may have already happened. I read it early doors so I suppose he will have to wait until the docs have done their rounds.

We both keep having sniffles, sneezing and catarrh but otherwise feel fine. It's like hay fever but we we've been having it through winter and Mrs Tiz doesn't normally have hay fever . Are any of you having the same issues? It makes wearing a mask difficult too. We are not meeting with other people and always wear a mask in shops etc. It's almost as if our immune system is firing off simply for practise!

There's a hypothesis that in the bad old days when all humans carried parasitic infections such as worms, the parasites had evolved the ability to moderate our immune system's activity. Once we started living without worms there was no moderation and our immune system fired up too readily or too intensely, thus accounting for auto immune responses. I wonder if cold viruses normally do for us what the parasites used to do - and in the absence of cold virus our immune system is over-reacting?

Not sure what it is Peter but I have the same nagging little problem, a nose that suddenly has a phase of running and then stops. I seem to remember Sue reported the same thing. I haven't seen it as a problem, just a mild annoyance.
Interesting theory about parasites.
I did wonder if giving up smoking in October had anything to do with it.

I remember last year that some OG members noted they'd avoided colds and coughs as a benefit of lockdown but were having more sniffles and sneezes. I had worse harvest fever last year than I've ever had and I'm not looking forward to this year's season. Time we had a vaccination for that too!

I went to Beecham House, in West London, in the 1970s for a series of allergy tests. One of the strongest reactions was to grass pollen, this resulted in an eighteen week course of jabs, they didn't make any difference .
Once I moved from that there London, in 2004, my hayfever hasn't affected me anywhere near as much. I get the odd symptom, itchy eyes and sneezing, when the grass pollen count is really high but a couple of Ceterizine stops it in about 20 minutes. I think that may be psychological

I have more hay fever now living in town than when I lived out in the countryside. It's all them gardens!

Could air pollution have something to do with it?

I doubt it, we live on the west side of town and have a good west wind from the Bristol channel blowing through us much of the time.

On the subject of prevailing wind. I remember being surprised when I found that the Isle of Skye was a hot spot for respiratory complaints despite getting the cleanest incoming air in the UK. One theory was that modern houses aren't ventilated well enough and it's caused by lack of fresh air. Not enough cold draughts!

No guilt here. (7.2 ), two hours after evening meal)
Hubby asked me to check his too ( he never does it himself), so I won’t bother him for another week now

I guess you (and I) are in the fortunate position where we prepare and cook the majority of our own meals, so we know exactly what goes into them and don’t eat a lot of Carb laden takeaway food.

An acquaintance of ours, who has just turned 50, diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes just yesterday. ( they will be on a steep learning curve, as their diet consists primarily of take-away and high carb foods, with almost no veg or salad.)

I asked new diagnosed Diabetic acquaintance what they had for lunch the other day, hoping a new dietary regime may be creeping in. No. The answer was takeaway Chicken and Chips and Gravy!

See THIS BBC report about Body Mass Index which is coming under increased attack. About time too! I have always seen it as flawed and my mate Danny Pateman, a big lad...



summed it up nicely when he told me that there was nothing wrong with his BMI, it was just that he was 6" too short!

I wrote this on OG back in 2014...
`Body Mass Index (BMI) is a bad way to judge whether someone is normal weight, overweight or obese. It was designed in the 1800s for a different purpose and should never have been used to assess obesity and we all know that BMI values are often misleading (for example, muscular athletes are judged as obese according to their BMI).'

Not much has changed. I'm glad that MPs are going to push for change but why do these things take so long to get their attention?

Because they spend too much time thinking about themselves and how to get the jump on other politicians and the media.
