OGFB Donations 2014

Post by Pluggy »

As already posted, the OGFB finances for the 2013-2014 Tax Year As follows:

Paypal Income from Donations £314.82
Other Income (Cash) £20.00
Total Income £334.82

Hosting & Domain Renewals £170.79
Repair of Site (October 2013) £138.77
Total Outgoings £309.56

Total Profit for Tax year £25.26
************************************

We had quite a few donations around October when we were getting the site fixed. But there have been very limited donations since. Since the beginning of 2014. I've had a total of 3 donations and expenditure has been greater than income. Nothing desperate, but if you haven't donated recently, bear the site in mind.

Theres a little yellow Donate button at the top of each page for Paypal.

If you have an hangup with Paypal (its not to everyones taste), you can post a cheque or cash to the address on this page : http://stsr.co.uk/contact-us.html (or direct through the door if you're passing).

Cheques payable to Stephen Taylforth please. Please mark the back of the cheque or envelope "OGFB".

Back when Doc had the helm, adverts proved to be very unpopular, and I don't want to go down that road, so donations are what's required to keep the site going.

You're soon going to have video adverts playing on Facebook http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-27501761, so enjoy OGFB with no adverts.

...or Jack might sell you! :surprised: But to prevent either of you being sold, Mrs Tiz is doing a donation this very minute.
Keep up the good work, all of you administrators and moderators! :cool4:

Thank you Tizer.

The "appeal" is working well, thank you all for donating.

The last few hours, you may have been getting worrying messages in your email when donating via the link. It seems 1and1's mail server (which handles messages to my stsr.co.uk address used by paypal) has got itself blacklisted by a respectable Antispam outfit which paypal uses to keep on top of its spam. Its not directly connected with OGFB, but stsr.co.uk is registered with 1and1 who host OGFB.

http://www.spamcop.net/w3m?action=check ... .227.17.24

I'm in two minds whether to ring 1and1 and pour abuse on some poor call centre bod.

I did ring 1and1 and they are aware of the problem, and that it should only be temporary. (Which is precisely what I was expecting).

I moved STSR onto 1and1 because its more expensive (and hence in my mind should be better) than my cheapo hosting in America which my other domains use. Maybe how much you pay is no guarantee of quality in ISP land.....

Just a mid tax year update. Donations are ahead of outgoings, To the tune of £91.80.(I've got an OGFB box in my accounts now, so its easy to see the current state of affairs). I've had donations in the last month, after the flurry post the appeal earlier which is keeping us ahead. Thank you.

Theres just enough in the kitty to pay the regular outgoings for the rest of the tax year. If something untoward happens I'll be back with my begging bowl.

I made a small donation to a big internet outfit who share our dislike of adverts on their site. I make use of Wikipedia on a fairly regular basis, so I threw them a bone. £5. On the whole its a valuable resource provided you remember that controversial stuff is hijacked on a regular basis and you stay away from entries of people who are still alive and 'hot topics'.

OGFB's funds are ahead so, it could be argued I used OGFB to fund the donation. In reality I run OGFB as part of my business, so STSR made the donation. :)

If you appreciate wikipedia and not having adverts on their pages, consider donating. http://donate.wikimedia.org

If you type 'barlick' into google, Wikipedia is top, Mr Whipp's http://visitbanoldswick.co.uk is second and we're third.

Your automatic thank you message is working fine.

I don't have an automatic thank you system. That was a lovingly hand crafted email.... ;)

I do it for larger donations. Maybe I should say something a little less formal ?

I'm impressed and yes you should make it a bit more personal, it would carry more weight.....
