Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
The lights in the Town Square this morning, the powers that be are doing their best for the retailers!
Mr Stephenson is doing a bit better this year, last year his Xmas tree was out more than in. I wonder whether it's just coincidence that his lights are blue?
A report out this morning warns that 9 out of 10 Black Friday deals are actually on sale cheaper at other times of the year..... (Like the January sales?) Could be a timely warning!

They were quoting a `Which' study but also said that `Trusted Reviews' say the opposite - they're cheapest at Black Friday. Who to believe?

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Depends who is getting the kickback from the retailers. I'd probably fall on the side of Which.

I am with Pluggy.....
I have unconfirmed reports that Beamsley village is suffering periods of low voltage in the electricity supply. This could be a normal variation, on the other hand it could be that someone is draining large volumes of current. I am intrigued.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I thought I had seen a strange light in the sky but it turned out to be a very large red full moon, the November 'Frost Moon' or 'Beaver Moon'. It was hanging low in the sky to the NW. False alarm!

Nothing to report, a bit disappointing actually. Has anyone got any news?

You can tell something's going on when you read headlines like this one in the Somerset county Gazette...
`Next urgently recalls Christmas pudding onesie amid fears children could get trapped in it'
I have visions of Next employees running down the street and trying to catch the escaped Christmas pudding onesie before it swallows too many children.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
What on earth is a "Christmas pudding onesie"? No wonder I can't get any firm news of Mrs Trellis and her helpers if gobbledegook like this is the order of the day!

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
We had a very loud interruption on Friday night. We didn't even receive a flyer in our letterboxes to warn us. Suddenly at 10pm , oh the noise, and smell of smoke. I looked out of all my windows and finally found what it was by looking thru my laundry window, which faces East. I saw many Lights in the Sky, of all different colours, and quite high up. Birds flew from their trees, my cat scuttled off to her hiding place, all unexpected and a bit annoying. It wasn't coming from the direction of our local school and nowhere else so close has enough space. All quite bewildering. One beautiful but noisy spectacle after another, it lasted about 5 minutes.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I bought some Bon Bons today. Trouble is, there are 10 in a packet...and there is only 2 of us. So we either have Bon Bons covered for the next five Christmases or I have wasted £3 and we will die before we use them all

Maybe the tinfoil needs replacing in the hat ?

2000 Santas in Skipton this morning! It was great fun walking at the rear if the pack following a long stream of red suits.
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I've replaced the tin foil in both hat and slippers. Extra protection needed if I am to put the Christmas tree up today and throw decorations at it. Hubby asked me last night when I was going to get round to it. It's alright for him - he doesn't put it up or take it down or pack it away! (I think he called me a humbug...)

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I note that some DIY reindeer have appeared over Wellhouse Street. If I see them lit I'll do a pic....
Are Bon Bons Aussie crackers?
Where do 2,000 Santa Suits come from? Does Emissions Central provide them free?

Bon Bons are Christmas Crackers, yes... though probably made in Hong Kong...
Oh, and I've done the tree. So 'him wot does nothing to help' can stop mithering...

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Can you be using the right sort of tin foil Maz?? It's not even December yet here in northern parts, my tree goes up as close to Christmas eve as possible.
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
Wendy, tree is ( was) a very expensive plastic tree about 20 years ago, bought half price in a post Christmas sale...one of those fake "life-like" jobs. So it won't deteriorate before Christmas! ( though an entire bough had dropped of in the box when I got it out today!) that's ok...turn THAT bit to the wall...
I went through my boxes of decorations and chose only the silver toned ones this year.
Now what was your question?
Oh..yes...foil. It is the thick stuff. Is that a sign of quality? I'm sure I read in the fine print that you can get within spitting distance of the sun with it.
I feel ok. Skin hasn't changed colour and no loss of hair ( anywhere!) so think all is ok time will tell...
Mind you...( sniff sniff)... My slippers pong a bit. I don't think that could possibly be MY doing! ( sniff..sniff...phew!)

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I'm with you on that, Wendy. As my grandchildren get older there's less of a need to put up any decorations at all
I'm sure there are '12 days of Christmas' and I don't remember any of them being in November

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I love putting a tree up and adding all my old decorations some of which date back to my mother's childhood never mind mine, but I do like it to be special and a bit magical (even at my age) and that works best when Christmas is almost upon us!
Im a bit concerned about the naughty kitten this year though......

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
But..but..but...I won't get any more excited about Christmas between now and then. Christmas was lovely when I had a young child and I did my best to bring a bit of magic for him. ( my own Christmases as a kiddie were miserable and non existant mostly...and I have no happy memories to call on). Nowadays...I actually hate Christmas. But you go through the motions for others. My problem is that I hate false declarations of love and caring. We should care all year...for those we truly love ( and if you don't care, don't fake it at Christmas) A tree and a roast dinner don't do it for me.

And electronic Christmas cards don't do it for us. You can't hang them up or put them on the mantelpiece. I suppose you'd have to make them into a slide show on a tablet standing on the mantelpiece.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013
I agree with all of you especially Maz. I try very hard to be nice to family and people all year round. That's why, now l live alone I don't 'do' Xmas any more. My kids understand and have no problems with it. I still love to hear it and see it though on radio and TV.
I got this pic of the private enterprise Xmas lights on Wellhouse Street last night. Apologies for the camera shake, it was a very long exposure.
