With the expected poor results from M&S I get the feeling that this Xmas might be a blood bath in the High Street. The retailers will be pedalling as hard as they can to extract money from us. Think of the New Year when the bills come in and be careful. I know! I'm a kill-joy but we all know that the consequences of over indulgence can be horrible!

I don't think the M and S advert with Paddington will do them any harm. Lots of little ones nattering mums and dads. Nolic

Quite Comrade. I haven't seen it yet but heard a report. Thank God that when we were rearing kids 'pester power' wasn't all pervasive. I'm afraid that these days it is rife and the kids are the target of much of the advertising in subtle ways.
Give my love to all of them.....

Went into B&Q yesterday and couldn't move for tinsel, greenery, baubles, fake snow (makes a change from fake news!).

I was watching ITV last night for the first time in a while and was sickened by the Xmas advertising. Gross.

The retailers are really desperate, they're seeing their sales fatering and are worried it's going to be a quiet Christmas for them. So they're doing their damnedest to talk up the festival spirit, rope in the kids, and create feelings of guilt if you're not joining in.

The Xmas trees are up on the fronts of shops but as yet unlit except for the ones opposite Gott's Garage on Gisburn Road which are a blaze of colour.

They must have had a shilling for the meter. :biggrin2: On a more serious note, I will have to scan with my general coverage receiver for spurious emissions if radiation has started. I noticed the other day that we were getting down on tin foil. :surprised:

They'll be declaring a Black Friday, Pink Monday, Green Wednesday...anything to trick people into parting with their hard-earned cash or entering into another debt black hole.

It struck me yesterday that the bloke with the white beard on the four wheeled pedal car on Wysick the other day might be our version of Boris from Ilkley..... Mrs Trellis, where are you now.....?

My son's Labrador didn't quite understand the telling off she got after she plunged her big black head into the Christmas Tree and plucked out a lovely big red bauble....

Tree is at son's girlfriends home. Yes she is early and quite OTT about Christmad.
Son does not have his tree up yet. He doesn't always bother ( he is like his Mum). Depends which way the wind is blowing as to Christmas Decorations going up!
No wonder Abby the Labby isn't sure of etiquette re Christmas trees...those baubles must look like her ball.

Tension mounts! It's switch on time today for the emitters. Get the foil in Lads!
I was wrong wasn't I. Nov 17th was the start of Amazon's Black Friday promotion, the actual day is next Saturday the 24th.

Colne's Christmas light switch on is next Saturday 25 Nov. The city centre is closed down from 8.00 am till 10.00 pm. Must be something else going on to warrant this sort of drastic action. Probable dozens of old men in red suits making Ho Ho Ho noises. And worse than that, people trying to sell you things.

We were subject to the new "Christmas Casuals" at the supermarket this morning - quite tedious to be honest- as we did want to be in and out as quick as possible. I'm sure that, among the teenagers, are individuals who quickly get the system - sharp as tacks - destined for far better things. Unfortunately our young lad was oh so slow, complained all the way through about how early he had to get up this morning, and seemed to sink under the weight of scanning our purchases as he went along. I reckon it took us 20 mins to get through the checkout from the time he started serving us.
I truly thought our veg would wilt before we got it home.
Gosh it was painful....I felt so sorry for those in line behind us.
At one point, he said "what is this?" ( it was a cabbage!)
At another point he asked if Red Capsicum was related to Green Capsicum. When I said "oh yes", he said "I don't eat red or green things". ( the mother in me said he was probably typical of teenagers his age....couldn't get up early or eat veg!)
No mucking about next week. Eyes out for the regular staff. No one has 20 mins to watch someone scanning their half trolley of groceries!
