The Xmas lights, all the Commercial block , the north side of Town Square and the west side of Frank Street, all off. In addition the top section of the large emitter on the east side of the Square is off.
Never seen as many of them AWOL.

A word of warning from Which this morning about Black Friday bargains. Extensive price research has shown that less then 1 in 20 of the 'bargains' is actually cheaper than at any other time of the year. I don't think that will be the revelation of the century!

The Xmas Tree lights that were AWOL earlier in the week are all working. One nice touch, the one directly over the entrance to Stephenson House is red.....

We’ve had the same report that 1 in 20 of the ba gains is actually cheaper than at any other time of the year. Dodgy! Know your prices before spending.

That's a useful site Tiz. How are we supposed to remember all of them. Black Friday tomorrow of course, yet another cunning US wheeze that we could do without! Funny thing is that the retailers themselves hate them. Bit like the ever advancing 'Xmas Sales', on the whole they promote turnover but damage profits. I have a feeling that the Xmas sales figures this year are going to be a headline...
PS. About the right time to hear about disease in turkey flocks and a shortage....
Do you remember THIS advert for Hamlet Cigars?

You can tell how the high street is being squeezed. A lot of Black Friday events have morphed into fortnight long sales which is what they really are, some have already been running a week so may even be three weeks or month long.

I took advantage of one this morning and ordered two grade V vests from Damart saving £14.
You're right about the High Street Ian and it applies to a certain extent to online as well. Any ploy to turn stock over which is almost as important as actually making a profit. The capitalist market model is 'red in tooth and claw'!

Xmas is definitely here! I had the first sighting of the Coca Cola road train on C4 last night. It's all downhill from here.

Further evidence. The DIY Star, reindeer and sleigh have appeared over Railway Street. Not lit yet, I have checked, but they are in place.

A little bit of Christmas trivia... Apparently here in Oz (25+ million people), we use 150,000 kilometres of wrapping paper at Christmas time. That’s enough to wrap around the world 4 times.

A bit of Mrs P's memorabilia, believe it or not this is an official 1939 Christmas card sent from the front line of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) to her mom. The wording is more than brief. Greetings from Joe, to my darling Maud. That's it, probably not allowed to say anything more. He was later evacuated from Dunkirk.

I heard about this advert on the radio this morning. They say it was done in a day by his dad, and cost about £100. heartwarming I'd say - and beats that silly John Lewis dragon by a mile.

Brilliant! I can imagine some professionals watching that and feeling extremely insecure! Some company should buy it and screen it nationally!

I've now watched the Sainsbury's video and I'd put it in third place - not a as uplifting as the other two.

Can you be more specific with your order of preference, Tizzy ?( cos I look these things up on YouTube you know...in fact...I showed Febby the dragon one tonight and he fairly "melted" over it). I saw the hardware one too which was very good. I watched another one stuffing fruit in stockings ( was it Tangerines? ) What is the third one? These English Christmas Ads are a real treat for us. Nice to watch....
Haven't looked yet, but I expect Harrods have a Christmas Ad.
I would be interested to know how others feel about the ads. (We don't seem to have anything special here, though we used to in Christmases Past. I think online shopping has killed Christmas Ads..)
Coke will always be around...
