When I read Stanley's post quickly I thought it said: `I agree with all of you especially Maz. I try very hard to be nice to family and people all year round. That's why l now live alone', but then realised my error on a second reading.

Ah Tiz.... the perils of speed-reading!
Despite how cold it was yesterday I note the distressing tendency for some men to wear shorts. Bit like Xmas in California, Xmas to me is cold, wrapping up well and definitely not wearing shorts!
Noticeable that the number of cars in the Pioneer car park and the town is increasing, there is little doubt that the emitters are working, spending is rising and the annual frenzy, though perhaps slightly muted, is still a danger.
No sign of the Coca Cola advert here yet.....

Our Coca Cola ad is a little bit sneaky, the big red truck doesn't have a name on it! You just see someone drinking from a Coca Cola bottle at the end. All a bit suss really.

Kevin the Carrot (Aldi) looks to have taken over the truck this year :-)

I've seen Kevin...... Xmas selling is in full swing in the Cathedral of Choice even though we aren't into December yet. I saw my first dog with a Xmas collar of flashing multi-colour lights. Jack ignored it.

It all goes on the price of sprouts I suppose
Not a bad price here, but gosh they are huge. ( who wants huge, overblown sprouts?)
We are having salads anyway...but I wouldn't buy sprouts that big.

My sprouts are developing nicely in the garden, plus some red cabbage. :biggrin2:

Cant remember which company it is for (could be Aldi) but Santa has arrived in the outback , I must say a little bit bewildered, - who wouldn't be - and has been given a feed and watered at the local watering hole, his sleigh has been fixed, rejuvenated, powered up and given the all clear, his suit has been re-made for him and hey presto his reindeers and bright lights appeared and they all promptly took flight, leaving the outback residents a bit bewildered themselves, looking as if they are not quite sure as to what just happened.
It's all good :good:

I guess his lights are all LED now and that will put less of a drain on his sleigh battery. He can't use solar cells because he follows the night around the Earth on Christmas Eve.

Thank you for that, I was getting worried.
Still no sightings of vertically challenged workers in Trawden.

Not having any grandchildren, as yet, I sometimes wonder how the parents of today explain Father Christmas to their young children. What with LED lights, batteries for his sleigh, and lots of homes not having chimneys these days, it makes me think that the real meaning and story is lost.
I wonder if the real story of why a Bishop from the 4th century, who we call St. Nicholas the patron Saint of children (and sailors) is ever explained (or known by the parents) .
I doubt it, sadly.

You're right Cathy, I suspect they are disillusioned at a much younger age in these modern times. I think as kids we always suspected Father Xmas but it seemed easiest to go with what we were expected to believe. In particular, at one time I remember that I worried about him being attacked by the Luftwaffe! (I was very young.....)

I can totally understand making it a magical time for children, but I think when they are older and have 'cottoned on' then the real origins should be told.

I can't ever remember believing in Santa. If I ever did I have no memory of it. I have a vivid memory of someone in a Bunny suit hopping past the classroom window when I was in Grade 3 or 4. I was astounded at the number of kids in the class who truly believed they saw the Easter Bunny. ( I sat there...saying nothing...but thought it an entire crock of s&@t.)
( I couldn't understand the excitement)
( what is wrong with these people? Don't they know it's all rubbish?)
Someone told me yesterday that her 12 year old still believes in Santa. ( is the kid a bit backward????!) I said nothing. I find it easier not to challenge modern day parenting.... :dontgetit:

I know the Santas you see in shops and at parties are just ordinary people dressed up, but there is a real Santa who comes on Xmas Eve....who else eats the mince pies and drinks the whisky...answer that one you Santa deniers!!

Wish I could sit and have a wee glass of Red with you, and we could greet him together as he pops down the chimney, Wendy. We will sit silently and just watch him do his stuff. We won't say a word to anyone in the morning ( wink). Our secret.

Trying to trick me there girl, he doesn't come here any more Maz, no children!
I'll be meeting up with you soon enough in the place with white walls and white coated staff.....do they serve red wine there or will it have to be white?
