Flying Visit

Post by Doc »

Just a quick flying visit to say Hi to everyone on OGFB and I'm glad to see the site is going from strength to strength.
Carole and I are still travelling the islands here in the Caribbean and we are currently here in Grenada in the southern part.
Last season we made some good friends in Antigua and we're trying to get back there for Xmas but it depends on wether we can get the boat repaired in time after we were rammed/T-Boned by a French sailor who was travelling under full sail and not looking where he was going. We've a big hole in the side of our boat about the size of a dustbin lid. We were anchored at the time so we couldn't move. He was down below looking at his engine when he collided with us. After the collision he tried to do a runner but through social media I found him in a bar one week later, anyway its all sorted now with insurance etc just waiting to get hauled out to get the repairs done ($US 10,000 Estimate)... Bloody French
Anyway we're still having the time of our lives out here and we haven't really made any plans for the future as yet, we will continue doing what we're doing until one of us gets fed up.
We miss our friends and family dearly but not the cold and wet, it's 32°C here today with a pleasant breeze.
Anyway take care everyone and keep up the good work.
Doc & Carole

Hi Doc, good to see you and Mrs Doc looking so well and happy. Must be awful for you out there with the heat and the flies and the constant sea sickness.... so pleased to be holding the fort here in the cold, wet and wind. :extrawink:

Morning you two..... You're both looking younger! Carole, it looks as though you have settled into the life quite nicely, big hug from Barlick. Jack is going strong, it's ten years since you took me to Nelson.... What a good move. XXX

Hi Doc and Carole. Nice to 'meet' you.
All those thousands of square miles of sea and he manages to ram you, how unlucky. Seems like there are crazy drivers everywhere. US$10,000 for repairs - it ain't a cheap way of life is it? What's wrong with a dustbin lid and duck tape? I'll do the repairs for £10 and the air tickets to Grenada!
Keep enjoying yourselves and best wishes for Christmas and good luck for the future. Fair winds and a following sea...

Trust him to find the miscreant in a bar...... It would have been good to be a fly on the wall! (The video would sell.....)

Yes we get hauled out on Monday to get the repairs done. It should take 7 to 10 days before we get back in the water.
We both want to be in Antigua for xmas which is 300+ miles away so we might have to sail it in one hit 2 to 3 days should do it. It's cutting it fine to say the least but at least we won't be constrained and waiting on others.

The image shows where the other boat rammed us, it looks like a small job but he hit the big chain plate which connects the rigging to the mast and it's all cracked behind it needing new reinforcement and re-glassing.

Looks a bit of a mess Doc but glad you are scheduled for getting it sorted.

(I took the liberty of reinserting your image with its URL rather than the image ref which only renders a thumbnail view. This version of the gallery handles images slightly differently than the original version. If you insert with the Insert Image Icon in the top bar and use the URL you get a full size image in the post. As you did it in your first post.)

What a bloody mess.... He should be made to pay punitive damages to educate him..... Let us know how it goes.
