Heather, mine come mainly from memory but I check them in 'Stephenson's Quotations' or the Oxford Book of quotations. Both published after 16th C.

Re - authenticity

The first post is from the autobiography of one Margaret Roberts, whilst the second - I heard him say it on the television.
I don't want to spoil it if you haven't read the book, but it's quite interesting - I'm up to Ch 3, and she' just met this chap called Dennis - looks quite promising.....

Er, people have twigged that the authenticity/internet/Leonardo thing was, like, ironic ... haven't they? It's just that someone accused me of being pompous till I pointed out that tinterweb wasn't invented when Leonardo was quoted as saying it wasn't authentic... kinda spoils the joke when you have to explain it!
