Do they really class not bidding enough as not 'winning'? I knew that auctioneers like to engender competition in the sale room, didn't realise Ebay do the same thing.

"England in effect is insular, she is maritime, she is linked through her exchanges, her markets, her supply lines to the most diverse and often the most distant countries; she pursues essentially industrial and commercial activities, and only slight agricultural ones....In short, the nature, the structure, the very situation that are England's differ profoundly from those of the continentals."

Re - authenticity

The first post is from the autobiography of one Margaret Roberts, whilst the second - I heard him say it on the television.
I don't want to spoil it if you haven't read the book, but it's quite interesting - I'm up to Ch 3, and she' just met this chap called Dennis - looks quite promising.....

It's just that someone accused me of being pompous till I pointed out that tinterweb wasn't invented when Leonardo was quoted as saying it wasn't authentic... kinda spoils the joke when you have to explain it! :disappointed: :disappointed:

It's OK Heather, we are watching and enjoying your posts, even when they are misattributed - everyone knows it was William Shakespeare of Stratford and not some pasta-eating Italian.
