That's sad. When I posted a humorous comment I'd thought the only problem was an escaped aardvaark. It was only later that I heard more details.

The news gets worse. . .

Four meerkats that were 'killed' in a fire at London Zoo were brothers.
Robbie, Norman, Billy and Nigel are still missing and are presumed dead, Dominic Jermey, director general for the Zoological Society of London, said today. Misha, a nine-year-old aardvark, died in her sleep after suffering from smoke inhalation, an initial post-mortem has found.

An alternative version is that she burned to death. That was the coroner's verdict on my son in law Harry when his lungs were found to be full of smoke after the Jandakot plane crash.....

At first I thought Dominic Jermey was a reference to two more meerkats. It must be difficult to distinguish between staff and inmates at the zoo.

Interesting. I've just seen a Daily Mail front page where they're criticising people like me who want to stop Brexit. My response would be "If you saw a man about to throw himself off a bridge wouldn't you try and stop him?"

In one of the Richard Dawkins debates with Creationists one of the replies was "if you were choking would you prefer someone to carry out the Heimlich maneuver or pray for you?"

Reading a Terry Pratchett novel. One scene is set in the market place of a desert town and a man is wandering amongst the crowd selling snacks from a tray. One of his delicacies is `long-past-their-sell-by dates'.

"Mrs May said the health service is better prepared than ever before, during a visit to Wokingham today."

After cancelling all elective surgery for the next four weeks - a move Jeremy Hunt said was evidence of better planning this year, since patients had been given more notice of the cancellations than last year.

Good grief - how can anyone say stuff like this?

I may have to redefine my definition of 'spin'.

From the Guardian - I just crossed Jamaica of my 'to do' list.
'
"Jamaica Constabulary’s force police commissioner, George Quallo, told the Jamaica Information Service 335 murders were recorded in St James Parish in 2017, almost twice as many as the other parishes."

A friend of mine was murdered in Trinidad Tripps. Sensible move! See THIS for a report of Lynette's death. She worked at Granada and lived in Altrincham when I knew her.

Lynette visiting at Addingham in 1987. A lovely woman, such a shame.

A bit stark? To put into context . . .

President Donald Trump has told global finance leaders he will always put the US first when it comes to trade, but "that does not mean America alone". "The US is open for business," he said in his inaugural address to the World Economic Forum in Davos on Friday.
