David, just because I have the book doesn't mean I joined the grammar police! My view has always been that if the meaning is clear the grammar is OK. Who am I to dictate how others communicate? I break plenty of the rules.....
Did you read the article on Churchill quotes? It supports your argument about always doubting the attribution.

BBC on the US troubles...
Around 1,000 people took to the streets of Kenosha on Saturday chanting "Black lives matter". Jacob Blake Sr called for protesters to remain peaceful while calling for justice for his son. "Good people of this city understand. If we tear it up we have nothing," he told the crowd. "Stop it. Show them for one night we don't have to tear up nothing." More than 1,000 National Guard soldiers were in Kenosha, many from other states, the Reuters news agency reported.

And this on the white teenager, a former police cadet, charged with killing two people during the unrest in Kenosha: Lawyers have said he will fight charges against him on the grounds of self-defence. Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, had told journalists it was "his job" to guard buildings in Kenosha against protesters. What isn't mentioned there is that the lawyers are a very expensive team who also do work for people around Trump....
`Reuters is reporting Rittenhouse has hired the Pierce Brainbridge law firm — a firm that has represented the former advisor for President Donald Trump, Carter Page, and Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani. John Pierce, a civil litigator, told Reuters he and his colleagues at the law firm will be raising funds for Rittenhouse's defense through his #FightBack Foundation..'. LINK
Rittenhouse was seen with a `Smith & Wesson AR-15-style rifle' which he ws not legally entitled to possess, running across a car park. A man tried take the gun off him and Rittenhouse shot him and ran off. Someone else tried and was shot. The lawyers claim `Kyle Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. Murder charges are factually unsupportable. An egregious miscarriage of justice is occurring with respect to this 17-year old boy."

Peter. He's going to have to work hard on that one. Trump is being very clever and efficient. The election depends on how many people buy his false messages and I am worried because past evidence is that there are many of them. Liberals like us don't understand how this can be, that's our handicap, and Biden's as well.

Writing in the Sunday Times, John Major and Tony Blair said the government's actions were "irresponsible, wrong in principle and dangerous in practice". "It raises questions that go far beyond the impact on Ireland, the peace process and negotiations for a trade deal - crucial though they are. It questions the very integrity of our nation," they said..."As the world looks on aghast at the UK - the word of which was once accepted as inviolable - this government's action is shaming itself and embarrassing our nation," they added....They accuse ministers of embarrassing the UK, by negotiating with what they call "cavalier bombast posing as serious diplomacy" - an approach they say questions the very integrity of the nation. "There are plenty of people who are not, as one cabinet minister claimed to be, "supremely relaxed" about the government admitting that its strategy could break international law if it helps get a deal with the EU. "

Quote from Laura Kuenssberg's BBC article on the Brexit debate yesterday. She is right, only the morons and those who have eaten their brains are relaxed.

From the brilliant sketch writer John Crace in The Guardian

Inevitably, some Tory MPs were keen to seek clarification on the rule of six. Was it possible to introduce some exceptions? It wasn’t. If Boris wasn’t allowed to see all his children at the same time – other than at a grouse shoot – then the same rule had to apply to everyone. This was a first. Normally most rules don’t seem to apply to the prime minister.

From Gov website - dated May 7th 2020

Baroness Dido Harding has been appointed to lead the programme of testing and tracing as part of the government’s ongoing response to coronavirus.
Her appointment has been confirmed by the Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock, and Baroness Harding will start immediately, with the roll out of the programme to begin from mid-May. This is a cross-government role and Baroness Harding will directly report to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Secretary.

*****************************************

First, we were promised 100,000 tests a day, then 250,000, then 400,000. Finally, last week, came Boris Johnson's 'moonshot' announcement – 'literally millions' of people would be tested every day 'in the near future', he claimed.

Rather worryingly she has been 'appointed' successor to the outfit that replaces Public Health England. Remember that was to be abolished a few weeks ago.
What could possibly go wrong?

Later that same day. Up before the Commons Committee.

" Baroness Dido Harding the head of Test and Trace has said she doesn't believe "anybody was expecting to see the really sizeable increase in demand" for coronavirus tests."
