A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep when you hit the snooze button.

When I was working, I used to set two alarm clocks on the other side of the room, so I had to get out of bed to turn them off. ( one electric and one not...just in case of power failure)

I hit my snoooze button once but after that I have a cat who talks to me and gets me up, oh and the thought of a cup of tea.

Welcome to the weekend. Week end, as in the end of the working week. It has always struck me how industry manages to remain competitive when a lot of factories stand idle for 128 hours out of 168.

Maybe the factories work smarter instead of longer.

Think how much more they could produce if they worked smarter and 100% of the time instead of 25%. I guess mills couldn't work very efficiently in the dark hours before the advent of electric lighting, and maybe this determined the culture of working only 6 days a week with little production being done at nights.

3. The government can not give anybody anything they have not first taken from somebody else.

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

How then, do we care for our sick, elderly, mentally ill, disabled, homeless and vulnerable?
Surely you are not suggesting that those who unable to work are not worthy members of society?

I am all for turfing those who CHOOSE not to work off handouts, but I think a society that provides for it's needy, with dignity, is the type of society I prefer to live in.

Well said Maz. There are no simple answers to the problem of distribution of wealth.....

Maz, I wasn't suggesting that a society shouldn't provide some benefits to the needy if that is what you thought by statement 5. More like: keep your eyes on Greece and watch what happens when 50% decide not to work or pay their taxes.

Greece does have a problem...

What I get annoyed at are ads wanting donations/sponsorship to "save/help" anything from children to wild animals in foreign countries. If their own governments can't give a fig, where do you think any internationally donated funds are going to go? How do I truly know if I have bought a goat for a poor family, or a gun for a rebel? By the time various agencies have deducted "costs" ( and you should look up some agencies "costs"!!!!), the pittance that may get to the end user is a joke.

Without checking, and having most of our clocks on automatic alteration for BST, I haven't yet worked out what the right time is...

Good to see Stanley about and busy at this gawdawful hour though!

At least the clock in my car will match up with everyone else's now (leaving it on BST all year is a real time saver...).

And not from the fridge in the shop.
The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn't need money for kicks,
Just a game with their mates in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks.

Where a pen'orth of sweets was sold

Or is it....I'm just getting old?
I remember the loo was the lav
And the bogy man came in the night,
It wasn't the least bit funny
Going "out back" with no light.

The interesting items we perused
From the newspapers cut into squares,
And hung on a peg in the loo,
It took little to keep us amused.
The clothes were boiled in the copper,
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone's duds.

I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore.
Anorexia and diets weren't heard of
And we hadn't much choice what we wore.
Do you think that bruised our ego
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.

Describes my childhood.....

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.
