How keen is your observation?

Post by Gearce »

This picture is almost perfect.

This sign stands above gates at a local racecourse. Can you see what is wrong with it?

:drinks2: for a correct answer.

The picture isn't very clear Gearce but I'm guessing that the "I" must be upside down.

'L' instead of 'E'.

I agree with David, the last E looks dodgy.

Perhaps it is not centred quite correctly...with the centre of the gate falling below the L of Hill, whereas it should be BETWEEN the I and the L ( given it is a 4 letter word). But really, the resolution isn't the greatest, and if it is anything to do with the scroll work then the correct answer is lost on me.
Or are you saying it is a pair of gates, so therefore not a singular gate, as referred to above? ( no S)

The wording and spelling is correct, but I will give this hint - it is a signwriter's error

The letters H-I-L-L should have some top support. They are standing on a frame but not framed at the top of the letters.

Or is it something to do with the intertwined V R C design at the top of the gate? V??? Racing Club?

I believe the VRC refers to Victoria Racing Club based at Flemington.

Flemington Racecourse

Still can't see what's wrong with it though.

Well spotted Wendy. I considered the A being the wrong way around but decided it was OK because it matched the E having the heavy stroke on the left. I didn't think to check it!

This has been doing the rounds on social media. What do you see in the picture?
A man running into the woods or a dog running out of the woods?

That's clever. Immediate impression was a man but then I settled for dog because I have never seen a man with a dog's head on his back. :biggrin2:

Definitely a dog, it just looked more in proportion to the trees.
