Talking of fossils I'm reminded of sections through semi precious stones. There was a small shop in Newbiggin by the Sea that had loads of these nuggets on display. Some of the 'Dreamstones' had very interesting patterns from the various chemical deposits. Tizer, where are you?

Am I the only one with access to that link under StoneRoad's image which appears to reveal the answer?

Apologies for disappearing.
Best friend's mother died at 0415 on Friday morning and I've been haring about the landscape ever since. Things have settled down enough that I can get on the laptop ...

Answer, Fossilised paint layers ... specifically from the paint shop on a narrow gauge railway.

Open Floor, unless Stanley can oblige ?

Poisons were dispensed in glass bottles with a corrugated back panel to warn blind people of the danger. Not sure if the brown bottle has corrugations so maybe that's not the answer you are seeking.

No China, you're right. Both ridged, brown and green bottles indicated danger. Next one?

Art class for steeplejacks combined with photography class on using `out of focus' images for adding atmosphere?

Are they the CI or copper dovetails for stabilising joints? If so let the others say which joints, I have an unfair advantage..... Nice to see you about Tom......

They look a bit like the feet you put under large plant pots to improve drainage / air flow ...

I've seen these in one of your photos on top of a mill chimney. If I remember correctly they are to tie the stonework courses together.

Not so much courses as individual blocks, methinks.
.
Just remembered I think I've seen something similar in sea defences and some land monuments, but sealed with lead ...

I was really thinking of the stonework on top of the chimney, the stone fancy head of the chimney.
