MYSTERY OBJECTS
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I suspect there has been some cross talk delay in objects and answers. Kev's light bulb must have taken a bit of work to get it all within reasonable focus. I liked it.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It's the previous one that Kev got right Gloria. The question about The railway hut is unanswered as yet!
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Thank you but it was just a quick pic taken with my phone. I was tempted to get my camera out and do the job properly

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I know they stored the signalling detonators in there. Plenty found when it was abandoned, we used to shoot at them with a .22 air rifle, good target fun.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I'd say it's a platelayer's hut but I don't know what Kev's ghost post said!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Probably a platelayer's hut.
The permanent way men would also use dets, also for fog signals at junctions.
I remember being on the last train out of one place - the staff put about what felt like 50 dets down in front of the departing special ( service train with extra carriage / dmu , I think )
It was a) very loud
and b) the smell and smoke took a long time to dissipate.
Although my mother complained when we got home that our clothes smelt ...

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
You are all right, it was a playelayer's hut. In the old days they needed somewhere to store tackle and take shelter, they were a common sight at the trackside and essential before they had transport to hold tools and crew cabs to shelter in.

Does it incorporate a ventilation shaft? (I haven't looked at the spoiler.)

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Not a lot of point stretching this one out. Wainhouse Tower at Halifax and the link has its interesting history Tiz.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Celebration of women's suffrage. When, possibly around 1920, and where I don't know.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Celebration of the end of WW1 in France. They had to wave US and GB flags because they'd bleached all theirs.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Interesting tries but both wrong. Don't be put off, keep thinking about it!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
About 1910 I'd say. The car looks continental to me and I'd guess in France but the ball??
Only thing that comes to my mind is the legal requirement for a man with a red flag having to precede cars in the early days.......

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Nothing to do with red flags having to precede cars, women's suffrage or world wars and the date is a little bit earlier. It's in Britain and the lady became famous at the time.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Looks like the start of a race between the male runner and the car. I don't know the occasion.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Or the other bloke who is to the left and watching the flags. Are they both suitors and having a race to get the girl? Is this why she is famous or fickle?
