Is this one an early all terrain reconnaissance vehicle held upright by centrifugal force?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I'm tempted to cheat but in the back of my mind I've seen this image before so I'll hang on and see if anything filters through. I'm probably getting mixed up with Tesla's power transmission experiments where this is one of the receivers.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Not a salad spinner, tumble dryer prototype, moonlander wheel, or power receiver. It's not Stanley's `early all terrain reconnaissance vehicle held upright by centrifugal force' but he's the closest so far with his word `vehicle'.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Wheels for crossing snow?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Using Chinatykes guess as a starting point. I'd say snow wheels for a small aircraft.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Stanley's getting close with `Self-propelled wheel'.

Across Ice....?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Not specifically for on ice...but don't fall into the trap of thinking it's a wheel to fit on a vehicle. I'll give you a clue - the man is looking at a scale model, not the final object.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Very early battle tank wheel, prior to track driven. Possibly Russian design. Well he looks Russian anyhow.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Ah! That's a scale model, it'll be a 'monocycle' I reckon.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
You're getting closer now by thinking of it being a model of something bigger. I suppose one description could be `a monocycle' but it had its own specific name and it wasn't like those used by clowns!

If anyone was going to guess this one without googling it surely they would have done it by now..... Please put us all out of our misery.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done, Kev! I was prompted to put it on OG by Mrs Tiz who, last week, visited Chilliswood House only a couple of miles from where we live. The inventor lived there for a while later in his life. I got the photo from this web site which is worth looking at because it has many interesting photos, including several of weird vehicles and the Dynasphere.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Just to expand on Tizer's object This is probably one of the first single wheel motorcycles (monowheel) that were made. It can be seen in Google images. A 1931 Capable of 93 mph. Link
PS I thought Douglas motorcycles had made it but I was wrong.

Is it the ceiling where two railway tunnels meet?

The last known hiding place of the Ark of the Covenant. Now known as the Arch of the Covenant. Secret passage way under the canal leading to nowhere since the Treacle mines closed down.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done Tiz! Good memory. It's the cast iron arched ceiling of the link between the two bores of the Standedge Railway tunnels (LINK) The directors had a celebratory dinner there when the tunnel was completed. The floor is covered with encaustic tiles.....
