StoneRoad has it. I remember Stanley mentioning it some while ago.... 'I've put this pic in to remind you that a lead block is ideal for backing up material if you are using hole punches.' I wouldn't like to be hit with one of Big Kev's pucks.

P&S are both right. It's a backing block if you are using something with a sharp cutting edge like a hole punch or a chisel. This one is lead and when it gets too marked up I simply put it in a nice shaped paint can and remelt it. Good as new.
A similar thing but made of soft pitch was used by metal workers embossing patterns into soft metals like gold, silver or soft copper alloys. Again, easily restored to shape by melting.
Next for shaving?

It looks to me like the spring loaded gizmo used by ice cream vendors for making what we used to call a 'wafer'. A sandwich of a block of ice cream between two wafers.

Spot on Stanley. I inherited it from my late M.i.L. who had a shop. I posted it because when I asked my grandchildren once if they wanted a wafer - they said 'what's a wafer?'

P1000699.JPG
It looks as if it was made in someone's 'shed'.

Note that it can be adjusted for two thicknesses a 3d one or a 6d one?

Steve in Barlick could do wafers with a flake in the middle as well, a la 99 wafer.

I thought that was it. I used them regularly when I was 'open all hours' at Sough. You kept them in a container with a weak solution of Milton in it for hygiene.

Mrs Tiz had several summer jobs in her youth and one of those was selling ice creams in Woolworth's. Another was when she spent all summer frying eggs in the canteen of the Liverpool Echo (and she doesn't like egg!). A further one was selling shoes but the shop found she was better at handling the money than doing the selling. Another summer job was in a laboratory - and that's where she met me!

David, of course there is but your comment has been made before. All I can say is that I have always been a nosey bugger and very observant..... Just think, I wouldn't have known these things if I'd been working for Amazon and wearing those goggles!
Come on, let's have a new object!

That's a good one..... From the wear and the shape of the 'nose' I'd say it was for holding something springy open so you can slip something inside but beyond that I am baffled.....

I wondered that because it looks like cleaner and newer timber. My first thought was that it was a knurr and spell trap but decided against that.
