Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Part of a gate hinge? There's a rod from the gate coming in from the right, into an eye on the top of a vertical rod which rotates as the gate is opened and closed?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Nearly there, but what function does it perform?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Does it allow the gate to open in either direction and uses gravity to put the gate back to a central position? The hinges would be able to slide up and down on their pins to allow the vertical movement.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done Kev.
It is on a gate to the rear of St Marys Church, Eccleston. The gate rises as it opens, and automatically closes.
Never seen one before like this.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done Kev. That was a good one Gloria, and very unusual. The same function as a 'rising butt hinge'.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well done Ma'am! Now you might as well tell them the whole story.......
That's a clever link Kev and pertinent but not quite the answer to the question.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I don't get why, but it had to be the answer. In a similar way to when there is a multiple choice question in a TV quiz, the one that looks as if it wouldn't be there unless it was the right answer, very often is the right answer.

I suppose I have to confess that I cheated, but only when no one seemed to be coming up with an answer!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
You are forgiven Ma'am. Martha and Roger took me to the Hormel Spam Museum in Austin Minnesota and that was where I learned about the Spamettes. One of the exhibits was a video of The Flying Circus singing Spam, Spam ,Spam which I thought was brave of them. I congratulated the lady in charge but told her I was disappointed that there wasn't a fried Spam butty on sale.....

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
One of our regular school dinners in primary school was battered spam, I loved it.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
The chip shop where I lived 'darn sarf' served spam in batter, I loved them.
Fried spam with fried eggs is a delicacy I've not experienced for a while, I may have to change that very soon and the carb content is relatively low...

I kept quiet because I knew the answer but I was tempted to write "I don't know who they are but the one on the right has big maracas!".

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Battered spam fritters was something of a speciality on one of the chippies in my misspent youth. I've gone all nostalgic ...
