There's a programme on BBC 1 at the moment 'The Truth About Carbs'

I think it was produced by Wendyf and Big Kev.

Good to see a programme about the benefits of cutting starchy carbs, but we were disappointed that it still gave the impression that we all need carbs for energy when we can burn fat instead. Dr Unwin's low carb programme (followed as a successful experiment) would definitely have include natural saturated fats and good quality red meat. It's a start though!

I found the references to the fibrous carbs which are not easily digested and their effects on the gut population quite interesting.....

Yes, but there are plenty fibrous carbs in leafy greens, berries and nuts to keep anyone going without turning to wholegrains! :laugh5:

I heard mention of a low carb key lime pie on the programme, this definitely needs further investigation :-)

The more I watch 'The Bridge', the more I warm to the lead character Saga. She is such an interesting character and is disturbingly direct! I like that.

I watched "Who Do You Think You Are" last night. It was interesting as usual but I thought they twisted the facts to fit their story. The family living in Manchester at the turn of the century were portrayed as poverty stricken working class living in dire circumstances but amazingly great grandma described herself as a suffragette in the 1911 census.
Anyone else notice that her husband was a Builder's Manager? We saw her on the electoral roll in 1918, which meant either she or her husband owned property. :geek:

I agree with you Wendy. I watched about half of it and gave up because I thought they were bending the facts to support a hypothesis that they had started with.

Radio4 actually.... Jim Alkalili and 'The Life Scientific' yesterday was superb, a mixture of basic particle science and revelations about Fuchs and Pontecorvo..... Well worth going and having a dig in iPlayer if you missed it.

Yesterday morning I switched the radio on in the middle of that programme and found it fascinating, even though I didn't understand what on earth he was talking about. I went to bed early and when i switched the bedside radio on it was at exactly the same point in the conversation!

Hidden last night was a bit dire. Not much on the plot but many disturbed people and nasty consequences. A bit more plot please!

I'm watching the footie. England v Belgium. Both teams would rather lose for strategic reasons - the Belgians have admitted it but we (of course) haven't. I've been hoping throughout that the involvement of Kieran Trippier would help to 'increase awareness' of the name, and make my life just a little easier. No such luck.

I found this photo somewhere -

Sort of metaphor in a way for myself - must be in the genes.

I watched the last ever episode of 'The Bridge' last night. Absolutely superb. If you haven't been watching it have a binge on the full series which is on BBC iPlayer.
Also superb was the R4 programme yesterday morning about Bevan and Tredegar. If you missed it, well worth seeking out.

Wall to wall tennis and football last night (Oh, and Poldark!) I took the only way out, went on to Youtube and watched all five episodes of Smiley's People back to back. A brilliant story and it captured me yet again.
