I watched the last episode of 'Decline and Fall' last night and whilst it held my attention I have to admit that if I hadn't been alerted I wouldn't have seen it as a biting satire.... Perhaps I am a philistine.....
I enjoyed watching Ronnie O'Sullivan at work at the Crucible..... The Selby match bored me.....

Watched I, Daniel Blake on Amazon last night. I can understand the awards it won and the reviews it got. Very powerful condemnation of our current "welfare" system.

I look forwards to when it pops up somewhere for free! I have ditched the shed for today, household matters, Ronny O'Sullivan at 10:00 and then formula One later.

I saw it too. Went next door again for a joint viewing. Very enjoyable. Not sure whether the Shawshank Redemption tribute was in the original - I doubt it. For me the casting was all wrong Several were very unconvincing, but then I've had a personal version in my head for a long time.

I'm not an expert on satire, but remember it was written in 1928, when people were perhaps more deferential, and I still think it comes across better in the book rather than the TV production.

I watched the Alan Turing film on Ch4 The Imitation Game. Enjoyed it, but now I'll read my copy of his biography, and see how much of it was true.

On a slightly lower cerebral level I enjoyed some good snooker, watched the Grand Prix and then was totally engrossed in 'Line of Duty'. That DCI Huntley is a nasty piece of work..... A very short hour!

I sampled 'Born Killer' on C4 last night. Not too sure about it yet but worth watching the next episode I think. It's going to be a very dark story!

I half watched Grantchester - felt obliged to, since I had driven through the place after they had just finished a day's filming there last year. I don't think I'll be back. Too much 'box ticking' for me.

I was thinking of trying it on ITV Hub tonight.... never seen any of it.
ITV are doing another of their dramatisations of an actual case, the shooting of the 11 year old lad. I watched the one about the missing girl and found it fascinating. This one looks as though it could be as good.
I love snooker but Selby v Fu last night was dire.....

Sad to see Ronnie go out to Ding Junhui but at least we had that wonderful 146 break. Ronnie really enjoyed that. (Not least because it was worth £10,000 to him!)

Catherine wasn't interested in the earlier series of Line of Duty and when this series started she was reading a book in the first episode. However by the end of that episode she was hooked and has looked forward to each new twist in the tale. Mixed feelings about tonight. Yes, want to see a conclusion but don't want the best thing on TV to end.

Just watched Line of Duty's final episode. Wow - unbelievably complex wasn't it ? Quite a lot of twists and turns. Fancy the accused arresting her solicitor, during her interview - that's a new angle! I was tied in knots by the end.

Couldn't help but compare it to the final episode of 'The Detectives' on ITV last Thursday. That was a 'fly on the wall' style documentary based on a recent true case, in Lancashire, which was very ordinary in comparison. None of the detectives there was corrupt or involved with the crime, or each other, as far as I could tell. None was in a wheelchair, or had his/her arm in a sling at work. No police officer pointed a gun at, or shot and killed any other officer, or committed suicide. Quite a boring bunch of Lancashire plods really.

I had a re-run of the last episode of 'Line of Duty' last night and it was as good the second time as the first. I watched 'Little Boy Blue' as well. It's a terrible indictment of the way we have bred gang culture in young people with no proper grounding in either education or prospects of advancement. A raw portrayal but I have little doubt it's accurate. A sobering watch.....
Mark Selby beat John Higgins but only after one of the best matches I have ever seen. Both players fought well but Mark goes home with the £375,000....

If you want to make a budget TV series that involves pitched battles between the Danes and the Saxons, film it all in such low light that nobody can see any detail! (The Last Kingdom series on BBC2.)

I didn't have a problem with the lighting in The Last Kingdom, plenty of gore in view, some of the scenes at night are a bit dark but that is to be expected I suppose. Utrid, son of Utrid will be making another appearance I reckon, lots of history to romance about yet, pity about Erik he was developing in a nice bad boy, can't bend the history too much though, what would Ethelred do? He got a bit of an eye opener when his former (probably) subservient wife spiked the bad guy, more subterfuge and slash fest to come.

There was a cartoon in PE this week of two actors trying to remember if they were playing in The Last Kingdom or Game of Thrones.....
I couldn't see anything that attracted me on the schedule last night and went on Youtube where the first offering was a 1Hour 45 minutes African video of a tribe of smiths going through all the processes from charcoal and clay to forging an iron hoe using methods they have employed for at least 2,500 years. Fascinating and a very high level of skill giving a good result. Here's the LINK Well worth watching.

Thanks for the tip. I watched bits of it last time it was on, and was surprised to see later that it had become a bit of a cult. Seemed average to me. I'll give them another chance.
