I dipped my toe in but wasn't over impressed. I suspect that as I get older I don't want to know about angst, I want simple plots with a happy ending. I'll give it a fair go but as yet....

Part of the reason why I gave up on TV was that I'd enough problems of my own without importing others from TV. Another was you would sit there hoping it would get better, it seldom did. :frown:

I could never understand the popularity of East Enders Ken, for exactly that reason. I suppose if a series where people are always arguing reflects your life style it's attractive. It doesn't match mine thank God!
I am seriously thinking about watching Red October again.....

We gave up on Eastenders years ago, it was all the shouting and arguing.
Watched Raoul Moat last night, that was very good.

You and me both Gloria. It's a bit of a stretch when you have to follow the time leaps by whether or not a bloke has a scar on his face. Maybe the Scottish bloke will sort it all out? We can but live in hope. :beg:

I inadvertently dropped in on an episode the other night when changing channels.
I watched a film last night about logging by hand using oxen as draught animals in winter in Manchuria in 2002 just before the steam railway was closed and the rails taken up. It makes you wonder how humans can survive conditions like that.
I can watch films like that for hours. Also pictures of people using skills to make things with their hands. I remember once seeing a film on BBC TV, 'To Cast a Bell'. Never forgotten it.
It's time I watched 'Penda's Fen' again.......

Just watched a film called "A day begins in Manchester " on Talking Pictures TV. Filmed in black and white in the 1960's it's another world. So many differences to today. Daniel Meadows sort of thing. Can't find in on the web. Sky seem to own it, and I think you need to subscribe to see it again.
Several 'takeaways' (horrible word  ) Absolutely all white faces, seemingly full employment , with inefficient work practices - the docks ! and everything with a coating of black dirt.

The Other One, well I didn’t see that coming, I thought the girl behind the bar was going to be a sibling. Very cleverly done.
Caught up on the new Our Yorkshire Farm, what a brilliant upbringing those children have.

Agreed

I'm watching Three Billboards at Ebbing Missouri. described as an Oscar winning 'black comedy'.

Well - unusually for me I've watched it all the way through, but I haven't laughed yet. I think most of the characters were in it because they were rejected by Jeremy Kyle. Setting reminds me of Robert Earl Keene songs. I prefer Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, , and In the Heat of the Night.
