I have waited until you watched it before posting. We all know how it ends as there is the book and many previous film and the infamous radio production of the tale. Having said that it was bit of a damp squib at the end which did not really do justice to the productions build up. A break in the clouds and a single green shoot was just a bit too symbolic for me.

Watched Nigel Bond pull yet another rabbit out of the hat last night as he knocked out Gary Wilson. He is now the oldest player to get in the quarter finals since Fred Davies in 1980. Even he can't quite understand it! Good entertainment.

Well I never. . . I watched part of the match, and it was obvious that Nigel was getting knocked out - now I learn he won.

I saw Fred Davies play live at the Guildhall in Preston - he was in the twilight years then, and lost I think. It was said of his brother Joe that he never lost to anyone 'on level terms'.

I read somewhere that he rarely if ever played anyone on 'level terms' .

I have no idea if that's true or billiard hall myth, but it's a good story.

I've been saying for ages that they would be making a bid for world dominance in a lot more than snooker. I rather fancifully think of their snooker players as 'Terra Potter Warriors'

Ding beat Yan in the semi and McGuire whitewashed Mark Allen by playing the best snooker I have seen for years. A very good TV session! I shall be watching the final today!
As far as I am concerned David, good snooker is good snooker, no matter what the nationality.

Lyra Belacqua ( also known as Lyra Silvertongue, is the heroine of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Lyra is a young girl who inhabits a universe parallel to our own.


I think I'll leave her to it.

I was impressed by the seemingly genuine affection from the crowd for Ding Liren when he won the snooker. I remember him in tears when Ronnie O'Sullivan trounced him a long time ago. We are a very welcoming nation aren't we? Charming interview despite Hazel Irvine's usual inane questions.

From memory - ( I refuse to register with the BBC to listen again) there were two gags which went something like -

All side splitting stuff, and totally unexpected from the BBC. A good example of what modern political correctness quite rightly tries to avoid. I seriously doubt if anyone from their diversity and equality staff (they must have many) at the BBC has actually listened to it.

I enjoyed watching the games I missed, McGuire on fire and Ding quietly coming back and putting him away. Brilliant snooker at a wonderfully high level.

I'm watching the 'Varsity' ladies women's rugby match. As usual Oxford and Cambridge are in the final. I'm fascinated to see where the sponsor's logo has been place on their kit. I think they have researched who their target audience is. Oxford leading at the moment.

PS. 'We've' just got a last minute try and have won 8 - 5. 'Deus ex machina' again. ( I like that phrase)

I've enjoyed the game better than the male version. The players look normal not 20 stone of bone and muscle, and seem to be enjoying it all.

The sponsors - I'm sure you want to know are Rhino Direct - no me neither. . .

Have just finished watching David Attenborough Seven Worlds, One Planet.
7 episodes including the last one called On Location. which shows what the amazing crews had to go thru during the 4yrs it took to make the series.
10 / 10. Well worth watching and learning from.

David, I watched the first twenty minutes but had to stop, you were right but in my opinion beyond shocking, it was a horror story. I know these are isolated incidents but when the usual 'we have learned from our mistakes' is trotted out I want to strangle the buggers!
TV was so boring last night I watched snooker videos on Youtube!
