I watched the penalty shootout last night, and realised that if he missed his penalty - the name would forever be associated with England getting knocked out of the World Cup. I was probably more nervous than he was. All ended well, and I didn't have to spell my name when I collected my prescription at the pharmacy today - so perhaps that's progress.

Now if only he'd realise it's false economy to cut your own hair, and get a decent barber . . . .

R4 actually. 'Mind the gap' the programme studying transport is on again this morning, the second episode, railways today. If you haven't heard any of them I recommend you go on to iPlayer.

I don’t normally do folk music (one finger in your ear and lots of 'hey nonny no') but the BBC Concert Orchestra, with various guests, is going down quite nicely. BBC4 8pm Friday if you want to watch the rerun on the iPlayer.

I watched Cardinal on BBC4 last night, stretched a point and stayed up until 22:20! I like it, good story.
Not TV but R4. I'm listening to On Your Farm interviewing a lady called Martha Fielding who rears pigs. A lovely heart warming story and if you fancy that sort of thing well worth going to iPlayer and listening to it. (06:30 until 07:00)

Wow - that's late. Why do they put the interesting stuff on late. I'm watching Jeanette Winterson at the moment. Haven't quite made my mind up about her yet. She lived at 200 Water Street, Accrington. I've read Oranges etc, but no others by her.

Watched 'Brubaker' last night at an even later hour - interesting film, which I watched all the way through - which is unusual. A bit like The Shawshank Redemption'. Said to be based on fact -which is disturbing.

I watched it last night Kev and enjoyed it, if enjoyment is the right word because it's a very gory, violent story.....

I binged on Picnic at Hanging Rock last night..... almost up to date now. Another dark tale......

Caught up on the latest Hanging Rock episode, it doesn't get any lighter! I am persevering with Faith but my god it's confusing. The cameraman has a strange addiction to upside down scenes......

I watched the last episode of Hanging Rock and have to admit I was no wiser at the end..... I wonder whether the aim was to confuse us all. Or am I just thick.
Same could be said for Keeping Faith last night. I am trying but I haven't got the hang of the plot yet!

Keeping Faith is getting increasingly ridiculous! Apart from anything else I get totally distracted by Faith's glowing make up which gets repaired and refreshed after every emotional scene.....i just can't believe in her at all, or the plain, dull, wicked witch of the West police woman and her child side kick!

I've just watched BBC2 - "Extraordinary Rituals" - Best thing I've seen on TV for quite a while. It reminded me a lot of the film 'Mondo Cane' which I calculate I first saw fifty years ago. It has almost restored my respect for the BBC.

It covered all sorts of birth marriage and death rituals from many different cultures - fascinating throughout. Full of small memorable scenes - e.g. Tuareg men who are Muslim - at their wedding - cover their faces whilst the women do not - food for thought there.

One of a three programme series . Looks like next week will cover the festival of Thaipusam which I actually attended once. Interesting to see that though most of the rituals are ancient - the Smart phone, and Facebook, play a big part in them today.

Just bumped into a gardening programme called 'The Beechgrove Garden' on BBC2 at 9.30.
Quite new to me, though at the end they cut a cake to celebrate its 40th birthday. Looked like it was Scottish - though none the worse for that. Its outstanding selling point however, was that Monty Don was nowhere to be seen.

I used to enjoy the Beechgrove Garden years ago when we were living in Scotland, they had a small and rough patch of garden back then, I think it was beside the TV studios in Aberdeen. Carole was a young lass and I think the first female gardener on TV. It was much more relevant to normal folk than Gardener's World.

Thank God that on Sunday we will reach the final episode of that confusing series, Keeping Faith.
I've been watching the first two episodes of Bodyguard..... I am forced to admit that I don't find it hard to watch, plenty of action and indeed, if it's your bag, explicit sex! However, they are straining the plot to the limits and it's very hard to believe that it could ever happen in the way it is being driven forward. Passes an hour away but not a patch on something like 'The Night Manager'.
