I found this in my Great aunts belongings. Lancashire archives have helped me date it to around 1895-1900. I think it is a photo of my aunt. It says
BURNLEY WOOD BOARD SCHOOL
STANDARD 4
Group 2.

The archives say there were 7 standards and children were in them by ability not age. There were two groups for standard 4 split as boys and girls. Can anyone add anything.

A slight typo, It actually says' BURNLEY WOOD BOARD SCHOOL'
Burnley Wood being the area between Todmorden Rd & Plumb St in Burnley.

That's what Sue said in her first post Plaques unless I'm missing something?

Sue. Please tell me it said WARD. otherwise I'll think I've Been Seeing Things. Like Stanley's horned Rabbit.
Ps Todmorden Rd was once called Burnley Wood Rd.

It did say WARD, I went back and corrected it. I did however amend this before any comments were made?
Thanks for the comment about Todmorden road.

Thoroughly confusing so far! Or is it my distorted vision?

It said Ward Stanley but I had made a mistake it was Wood. It was a typo.

Took Dan on a driving lesson last night and took him through Burnley Wood. Unrecognisable from when it was my "patch" in the 1970's. Lots of streets demolished and new housing built.
It was a good area when I worked in Burnley with some very nice people. I used to meet one man in the Con Club it was his only break from caring for a very ill wife who never got over the death of their son in the Hapton Valley pit disaster. Strange how even people of my generation forget that Burnley was a mining town. Burnley Wood and Fulledge Con clubs were very working class which probably made them quite unusual. Nolic

This one's for Sue. Popped in at the Burnley Library on my way to the Burnley Town Hall heritage open day ,which is another story. I asked about Burnley Wood School photos. Ken Spencer, Mr Burnley, pulled out about 40 pictures in 3 minutes flat. Unfortunately, most were quite recent ones but he commented that there were possibly another 40 to look at. There is also a card index for all the images. Time was against me so I took a couple of sample pictures for your interest. Know nothing about them or when they were taken. Just something for you to think about.
