I had the last of the cabbage for dinner and half a spit roast chicken for tea. I've been buying what they call 'Kid's Apples' from the Co-op because they were the last of the Good Cox's but the last lot I bought were a different breed and I never noticed. Hard as bullets, juicy but not a lot of flavour so I'm chapping them up, microwaving them and having them with cream. That was pudding last night!

I had two Scotch Eggs for dinner as I sat watching the Grand Prix. I had some mutton neck end and chops slow cooking all day and by teatime they were cooked and the gravy de-fatted but I had put a bit too much liquid in. I had intended to put a can of new potatoes in and some frozen peas but the Co-Op was closed and so in the end I lifted the excess gravy off and put it with some muesli to make a savoury stiff porridge. Sounds strange I know but it was OK and without doubt very nourishing stuff. I finished the kid's apples by cooking them and having some cream with them. Not one of my best cooking days!

I could fancy that but too many carbs perhaps.
But having said that I popped some new potatoes in the stew yesterday and had that for dinner. At teatime I fried a few sweet potato chips and had them with the stew but avoided the remaining new potatoes! A little of what you fancy does you good!

Just 1 lasagne sheet - probably less than your sweet potato chips. If I do it again. I'd use fresh salmon and a few prawns instead of tinned. Also I forgot the ground cardamon seeds - they go well with this.

I'm mystified why at the age of 81, and of sound mind - and surely after a lifetime of eating it, you now almost consider bread to be poisonous.

Simple, because after ditching it cutting back on carbs I can see so much improvement in how I feel. Not just a whim, I tried it and saw a benefit. And yes, you are right about the occasinal sweet potato chips. That's why I give myself a treat every now and then. I haven't eliminated carbs, my dried peas are 67% carbohydrates, just cut back on them.
Yesterday I had mutton stew X two for dinner and tea and white Stilton with mango and ginger on oatcake for afters. That cheese should be banned, it's irresistible!

I like 'masked swede' Moh. Is that how you get kids to eat it?
I had a Pizza for dinner and fried breaded cod with mushy peas for tea and an apple for pudding.
On the carbs front.... I have decided that I am not going to worry about carbs beyond banning Bread, rice, pasta and confectionery. When you look at the carbs in other foods I am getting quite enough. As I have said before, I am evidently not hair-trigger as regards blood sugar. My next blood test will be interesting!

I bought two pizzas the other day at the Co-op, they had a deal on..... So I had pizza for dinner and put a steak to marinade all day. I must have led a sheltered life because I asked Kath to pick me a nice steak and she went into the back of the shop and came back with what she calls a rib steak. To the best of my knowledge it's the first I have ever had and I assume it's from the back of the beast between the spine and the ribs. I fried it for tea and it was beautiful, I shall be having it again! It had a nice bit of fat in it and I had it with mushy peas and two fried eggs. Kath had slipped a bonus trifle in my bag when I wasn't looking so I had that and an apple for pudding......

Do you think that was what Kath's 'rib steak' was Moh? I've heard of it but never asked for it. It was lovely!
Sausage, baked beans and egg for dinner. I picked on a half chicken (small) for tea and had Stilton on oatcakes after. No apple. I was full!

I would think so - because of the fat content it is a much more moist and tastier steak.
We had chicken legs, chips & mediterranean vegs.

Went to the Assheton Arms in Downhan for a late lunch. Had the fish platter, from the sharing starter menu, as a main course just for me. It was excellent.

Homemade Steamed Dim Sim last night. Very nice, though pale due to the steaming...would have had more colour if fried, but not as good for us.
Have taken Minced Steak out of the freezer this morning and am considering the options. Toss up between Lasagne, Noodles, or a Potato topped marvel. It will depend on how much time I spend with my nose in a book!

Retirement is so taxing Maz, decisions decisions.......
As it was a free leccy day I had soaked dried peas overnight and simmered them slowly in the morning so I had pork pie and peas for dinner. I was slow cooking a leg of mutton all day in cider so had a scotch egg for tea with some of the gravy from it. Stilton on oat cakes and and apple for pudding.

I had one Scotch Egg left so I had it with veggies out of the mutton stew for dinner. A bowl of the mutton followed by an apple and Stilton on Oatcakes for tea. I have a fancy for Stilton at the moment in case you hadn't noticed....
