No problem, Plaques. I'm going to put polystyrene sheet + reflective foil across the wall at the back behind the pipes and along the concrete floor then probably fill the rest of the cavity with mineral wool.

CH pipes do tend to be warm.....
Did I see that BG are warning of another gas price rise because of the problem with a pipeline from Norway? If so my fixed price deal might end up in profit!

Yes, and Ineos, the chemicals company in Grangemouth that has been so successful is now facing a potentially major problem due to the break.

In the last week we've had several examples of the nights being warmer than the days (and the days weren't very cold either).

That might not last long after Bojo has made his visit to Moscow and threatened Putin with cyber warfare!

It would appear that the majority of cyber warfare is conducted through 'Twitter'. Pull the plug on Bojo's account and it will be 'Peace and Light' again. I don't think we need another clown getting in on the act. But there again we are approaching pantomime season. Perhaps we should all Tweet "He's behind You".

What puzzles me is why all the nitty gritty about the Moscow talks is conducted in the open. I the old days these arguments would take place behind closed doors and any announcements would be delayed until there was something positive to report. I know the modern trend is for transparency but there is a time and a place for secrecy and private conversation. They used to call it diplomacy.

I thought Boris deserved a Priti Patel welcome for his performance with his Russian counterpart, who actually looked like a Foreign Minister. He was not amused, and rightly so with the slovenly opening hand shake from Boris with one hand in his pocket. During the talks he was grinning like a Cheshire Cat and acting like the court jester. I don't think he knows the meaning of the word diplomacy. If he is the best we can do it's God help us.

Here's an update on our solar power generation since 2nd Jan 2018. The total Kwh is plotted against day number, i.e. the number for each day given in my WH Smith diary - it seemed the easiest way to do it in the Calc spreadsheet! Our 16 panels are split equally between east and west facing roofs. We're on latitude 51 degrees. We're enjoying generating free energy!

At the end of yesterday's sunshine we were able to record another `highest so far' - 11Kwh. This time of year is great fun as the sun gets higher, the days get longer and the generation rises! Solar panels work best at low temperatures so the coming sunny days should be good. At some time in Spring the sun's position will pass the optimum angle and the ambient temperatures will be rising so I'll be interested to see how the graph changes then. There's nowt like lifelong learning!

I've just looked at Pluggy's web page with his generation figures and my generation is a bit more than his at the moment. Comparisons are tricky because he's at a higher latitude (sun lower) and I don't know what orientation his panels have. Mine are half to the west and half to the east. Barlick is also a couple of degrees cooler too. And of course I don't know whether it's cloudy or hazy or sunny there.

16 panels will gerarate more than10
Even if they are pointing east and west rather than south. Best for me this year has been just over 8 kWh in a day. Days over 15 are a rarity at the best of times. My panels are pointing S-SE. Mornings are better than afternoons. We have shading issues later in the day.

At this time of the year we have some shading too, first thing in the morning. We're on a west-facing slope and there's a gable end of a house next up the slope. We had the panels cleaned by our window cleaner in January and he said it looked like the previous people hadn't had them cleaned since they were installed about 4 years ago.

Mine have never been cleaned in over 6 years. The output is still pretty much what it was when they were new. The forecast was 2050 kWh per year. They generally generate north of 2000 kWh. They are generally considered to be self cleaning. https://www.energymatters.com.au/panels ... ar-panels/

I've had a home-brew battery storage system for 12 months which has saved around 400 kWh in that time. I'm looking to append a much larger system and probably move to an economy 7 tariff. to charge it cheap overnight in winter when the panels are 'resting'.

Thanks for the link and advice. We probably have more seagulls here than you do in Barlick but I can't say that we definitely had an improvement from the cleaning, the performance varies so much day by day depending on cloud etc and the sun is getting higher and the days longer.
