Steak, kidney and onion stew with veggies for dinner and tea. Cheddar and apple slices on oatcakes for afters. What is it about the taste of good cheddar and a cox apple.......

I extended the stew and had it X two for dinner and tea. No cheese and biscuits, I had roasted peanuts instead.

I had finished the stew on Wednesday so I raided the freezer and the store cupboards, grilled six sausages, Fried two onions in olive oil and then added a tin of chopped tomatoes and reduced the sauce, Cut the sausages into chunks, dumped them in the slow cooker with the onion and tomato sauce and added a tin of new potatoes. That gave me two good helpings which I had for dinner and tea. Afters was a bag of crisps, some peanuts and a small Cox. It struck me that my mother's imprinting in the matter of holding food stocks had served me well. I suspect that many today would have had to go shopping or patronise the takeaway.

Steak pudding and peas for dinner. For tea I picked on half a small barbecued chicken, had a small apple pie that Kath had slipped in my bag and topped up with nuts and a Cox. (I know Wendy but it was so nice!)

Scotch Egg cold with low fat soft cheese for dinner. Pork pie and loads of freshly cooked sprouts for tea. I love sprouts!

I love sprouts too.
Pub meal for us tonight. We buckled to the pressure of friends who are staying alongside us in their van. We would rather cook something ourselves, but they love to eat at pubs.

On the way back from the North East a couple of weeks ago, I diverted to Richmond for a late breakfast. They have a couple of good butchers in the town centre, and I got some 'rare breed sausages' which were good but really not much different from common breed sausages. I bought however and froze, a large ribeye steak which was looking lonely in the window. I've just eaten it - with some salad, and half a bottle of Australian Shiraz from Aldi.

Pretty good. . . . :smile: Wish I'd taken its photo, but too late now.

Scotch Egg and soft cheese for dinner. The oxtail stew and veggies were on stream by teatime after a day in the slow cooker so I had that for tea. No cheese and biscuits.

Rice cooked with Spinach (yum!) and served with Homemade Chicken/Asian Veg Spring Roll.
Very enjoyable...after a Cheese and Beetroot Sandwich for lunch.

Haven't heard you mention Cheese and Beetroot for ages Stanley.... ( I know you are a lover...and I shall be whispering in your ear next time you are shopping at the Co-op! )

That was enough Maz. Thanks, it has fallen out of my repertoire!
I had the stew in a corner yesterday, I had a bowl for dinner. Only half a bowl left for tea so I went on a mixed diet, the stew followed by a pot of excellent Speyside marinaded herring in spirit vinegar with onions and dill, lovely! Cheddar on oatcakes for afters with a Cox apple. I ate a bit too much but it was lovely!

Maz, ESP is more efficient than telephone calls..... This morning Kathy (at the butcher's) slipped a couple of currant teacakes in my shopping (she does things like that....) and as she did I noted a jar of sliced beetroot on sale. Guess what I shall be having for tea! (Wendy will be after me but I shall really enjoy them!)

I had steak pudding and peas and a bag of crisps for dinner. I thought I wasn't hungry at tea time in consequence but later managed a Cornish pasty and brown sauce. I gave most of the pastry to Jack.....

I picked on half a small barbecued chicken at dinnertime. For tea I built the Maz butties. Two currant teacakes. Start with a light coat of Heinz salad cream, then a layer of beetroot followed by a layer of sliced cheddar cheese and topped with marinaded herring fillets from Speyside with white onions. What a lovely combination......
Today is cook-in day on free leccy. Shortly I shall start getting geared up!

:geek: sounds an interesting combo, Stanley.
I shall have to have a little taste test before I can approve such a creation ( :laugh5: especially since I've never eaten marinated herrings OR currant tea cakes!) , and have never thought of combining them.
