Unfortunately, the element in the oven blew whilst cooking a Roast last night.
The hot plates still work, so I can cook them Eggs and Bacon before we wave them off. Then I feel I want to sit down for an hour and stare at a blank wall.....

It is going to take me hours to suck up 4 days of dog hair...

Meat pie and veggies for dinner, Chinese at the Jade Palace for tea. I ate very sparingly......

Pretty well ship shape again, with some washing having to wait until tomorrow as the washing line is full.
It has taken the best part of 4 hours though, and had to empty the vac midway round.
( I'm soooooo tired. Will be in bed early.)
We have never liked the hot plates and under bench oven that came with the house, but we had agreed to let them have their life and replace them when they died. I had one hot plate die a few months ago, so now the oven has gone, we can go ahead and purchase. There is no rush, as I can still cook...

Look on the bright side Maz, whatever you buy will almost certainly be better and more fuel efficient.

Maz, I bought a portable induction hotplate and it is the best thing I've ever bought. $50 in Kmart. I take it camping and use it in the house. Before you buy another hotplate consider induction.

We have to go "electric" as we only have bottled gad here...no mains gas.
I have three complete (good) sets of pans which I do not want to replace ( one lot suitable for induction).
Yes...it's going to take some decision making. We were considering options tonight as we did the dishes ( because now is probably a good time to get a dishwasher too). Then there is the option of changing our laundry into a butler's pantry.
Hubby always says "have what you want"

but it is amazing how a couple of quotes change THAT comment!
Early days. Living without an oven is not as difficult as living without a washing machine, and I did about 12 weeks of that chasing a warranty.
We will survive!

When I got my new hob Maz the general opinion was that on the grounds of utility and longevity the trend was back to the old standard electric elements as they need less maintenance and don't present any problems with cooking utensils. So that is what I got and it's fine.
I cooked a ham hock on Sunday and ended up with deboned meat and gravy in the fridge. I had the last pork pie with peas for dinner and for tea I had some of the chopped ham, peas, chips and fried egg. No afters.
I shall make a bowl of stuffing with the Gravy this morning and go from there. Dining out again tonight.

Making a meatloaf in the slow cooker at present. I had some Zucchinis, Carrots and Butternut Pumpkin needed using, so grated all that in to the mix, popped it all in a pudding basin and it is cooking in a water bath in the slow cooker. I do Sponge Puddings and Suet Puddings the same way. They always turn out lovely.
Given a choice, I do prefer a gas cooktop with an electric fan forced oven.
Liz mentioned the induction hob ( we had one of those and gave it away to one of the kids! I can't think why we bought it now. Must have needed it for something at some point.)

I've just heated the cider gravy from the ham hock, added a small packet of stuffing and a tin of mushy peas. I shall have a bowl of high class pease pudding by mid morning. A small helping of that will keep me on the road until this evening! I'm saving the rest of the ham for tomorrow......

I had only a couple of spoonfuls of the stuffing for dinner. I had a light dinner at the Eagle at Barrow but plenty to keep me going.

Yesterday was a rest day from dining out and was a catch as catch can day. I fried a pan of onions and tomatoes and this plus the enhanced stuffing and some chips made two meals for dinner and tea. Very tasty! No top ups needed at teatime, just an apple.

Dragged the double steamer pan from the pan drawer tonight and stacked it with veg. Cooked crumbed chicken to have with the steamed veg - very enjoyable. Who needs an oven?!!!!

I had chopped ham with fried egg for dinner, a small helping and then for tea had air dried beef for starters, Lamb and veggies for main course and sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for pudding. It was all good food very well cooked!

I had the last of the chopped ham with two fried eggs for dinner. I wasn't particularly hungry at teatime so I just had a cold Scotch Egg and some nuts with an apple for pudding.

I bought a pizza last week as a standby for a quick meal as all my usual meal planning went overboard. I decided it had to be used so I had it for dinner. Tea was once more a cold Scotch egg and nuts with an apple for pudding.

No Liz, I have an excellent butcher and get them from there, unfailing high quality and what impresses me is that the yolks of the hard-boiled eggs are never black from the sulphur content.
I had a Cornish pasty with veggies for dinner and a steak pudding with veggies for tea.

Crumbed Tuna and Sweetcorn Patties tonight ( probably with Salad). I make my patties a bit ahead of time and put them in the freezer to get quite firm. This way, they don't break up when frying. By the time the insides get really hot, the crust has formed and they stay together beautifully.
Weather warm, but that horrible blast furnace wind has dropped, so much more pleasant today.
