Friday is of course butcher's day and shopping.... If I have time I want to spend it on the 3 jaw chuck. I am not satisfied yet!

I shall not be going to craft today. Yesterday I finished the washing and ironing and started tidying the garden which has grown furiously whilst we have been away. Today I shall continue with that task . We are off on our summer trips to the Lakes next week (no doubt the rain will arrive. Its usually a wet week) so I want to get the garden tidy before we go. We seem to have missed the floral display of my giant poppies, giant alliums and numerous other plants which now all need dead heading.

Poppies are great but they don't last very long..... Ironing...... Funny how such a pointless activity has survived so long. I can understand it for shirts and blouses etc, but I have known women who ironed knickers and dusters! We were forced to do it in the army..... box pleats and soap on the inside of the creases on battledress trousers. Those were the days!
I shall be addressing my chuck..... I have a feeling that a complete strip down is the way to go.....

I have always liked ironing, making order out of disorder. I used to play a french language tape in the background at the same time, or plan a lesson in my head.

Today Claire and family are coming over then I shall finish my garden pruning. I can’t do much weeding in the front garden as the ground is baked solid but in the back we have put down plenty of manure over the years and even now the soil is nice and crumbly. After gardening we shall pack again.!

I remember a gardener once telling me that the best treatment in dry weather was hoeing with a Dutch Hoe, lets in the air and ambient moisture and kills weeds.
I shall continue the work on my chuck jaws using what I learned yesterday...... One jaw perfectly free after much fiddling!

My belief too however Stanley, even a Dutch hoe wouldn’t break this surface its like concrete! I have broken more than one here.

Off to the Lakes for the week. Hopefully a little rain will let me continue when we get back. The pruning is all done and the back garden looks rather good if I may say so. No lawn here just gravel and raised beds with lots of perenniels makes life easy except when it comes to cutting back twice a year...Spring and Autumn.

And it all turned out well Wendy!
All my cooking and cleaning is out of the way, all I need is a quick trip to the Cathedral of Choice for milk, nuts and a few other essentials. I shall definitely be in the shed pursuing perfection in my Cushman chuck.

Planning a trip to do some deer watching in Martindale. We went with a guide a few years ago and have been by ourselves ever since. Nice walk and better if you see something.

We've just had a week away - staying near Norwich.

Today has been spent in two ways
a) doing multiple loads of washing (towels and sheets from the caravan so extra to the normal numbers)
and
b) out in the garden catching up on some things - planting out, weeding and cutting the grass ...

tonight I have some 'puter work to do.

We had a lovely day yesterday. We caught the boat at Ambleside to Wray castle and walked the 4.5 miles down the lakeside to the ferry where we crosed over to Bowness. We then had a walk round Bowness followed by the boat back to Ambleside. We rounded the day with a swim at the spa here at Langdale. I was in bed by 10 .10 and slept till 8.00! I have just woken up.

We were crossing the road in Bowness when we met a friend crossing in the opposite direction . She was on a daytrip by coach from Manchester. Quite a coincidence.

Library this morning then preparing for tomorrow's high winds! I've only just got the garden table and chairs out on the patio, they will blow away if I don't flatten them again.

It was Cleveleys, it was a very nice day albeit overcast at times. Had a good walk along the front towards Fleetwood then back into town for fish and salad, set off home about 2:30 to avoid the traffic at 'school run' time.
It's good to get back to having days off in the week :-)

Two memories of Cleveleys.... The electric train service to Southport and hearing the recording of Roy Rogers singing 'Give me land lots of land' everywhere we went.
Two more articles yesterday and two more today I think..... I'm written up to August 3 already......

Last day in the Lakes today. A dry week but not the warmest. Done loads of walking a bit of swimming and some sight seeing. Today rain is expected so we are going to Kendal. Apparently there is a good fabric shop there. This afternoon we may do a very short walk to see some public art up the valley. Then its packing and home tomorrow via the raikway museum at Carnforth.

Sounds like a plan Sue! Today has been gobbled up so far by washing and cooking..... But someone has to do it and as I never tire of pointing out, I support my own sky!
