I was never what you'd call a 'fan' but I liked 'In It To Win It' , which was perhaps the cruellist game show, in that the person who got most questions right, and contributed most to the prize fund, could end up with nothing; whilst some one who got into the final round by total luck, put in nothing, and guessed the correct answer, could win all the money.

A sort of metaphor for our times? Something the Windrush children could relate to?

I bet most did not realise he was an ‘écrivain manqué’ , and I doubt you'll like him more when you read this - which I find quite a clever piece of writing, and hard to believe he actually wrote.

As you say David, surprising. The bit that grabbed me was " I was still emotionally stretched after a particularly traumatic episode of The Kardashians from the night before! ". I think that highlights the areas where his views differed from mine.....

Verne Troyer has died. I was never a fan of the Austin Powers films, I remember him from the James Bond films and Harry Potter. I liked him and always recognised that being the shortest man in the world (allegedly) must have had its pressures. (LINK)

It was Hervé Villechaize in the Bond films.

I have just heard that my old and valued friend John Robinson died on Saturday 'in great pain'. He had cancer.
There is nothing useful to say. He was part of my life.

That's a sad loss for you Stanley.
Nobody should die `in great pain' from cancer these days - the medics can provide powerful pain relief. Was he denied the drugs or did he refuse them, I wonder?

I don't know but that was what his wife said and she was with him when he died.
Bad timing because on a personal note, there is a message waiting for me at the surgery which I suspect is connected with my blood results..... They were muttering about kidneys. I am, understandably, a bit apprehensive!

I saw that report Cathy and it made me sad. 46 is a good age for a Gorilla but I wonder if he had a happier life than he would have had in the wild......

My understanding is that Koko was a female , she was very maternal to small animals that were given to her for eg kittens, she cared for them as if they were her babies.
Oh... and she really liked Robin Williams, in the photo, maybe because he was hairy and a male.
She very probably lived a much better life because she was a 'rescue' gorilla.
