I wish them luck. We are having quiet weather even at sea so they might be OK.
Lots of geese flying yesterday.

I saw starlings flocking over Barlick yesterday. Do they migrate? Or was it just the wind that was upsetting them.

They're gathering in `murmurations', the large flocks that you see on TV nature programmes, and flying to an overnight roosting site. They begin in autumn and the flocks get bigger as the weather gets colder. The bad weather will have prompted them to head for locations safe from predators.

Just sat here tonight watching Tele and noticed something out of the corner of my eye. Bl**dy Nora, what is that? Is that a giant centipede, I've no idea but I hope it doesn't have a mate!
Very unsettling.

It's about 5 inches long.

Not a thing I would like to see in my house Cathy!
Starlings gathering regularly in large numbers near us particularly on one set of distribution wires on Wellhouse Street, the road is covered with bird lime. I think they favour that point because we are on top of a hill and they'll have a good overview from there.

Cathy, perhaps the centipedes get bigger with global warming. Let's hope the crocodiles don't!
I heard on the radio that Meg & Harry had been give a present of a stuffed kangaroo while in Australia - I hope it doesn't start to smell before they get back home! :extrawink:

Some other presents they have received are
A pasta necklace dipped in gold paint, lots of stuffed toys, chocolates, bottles of beer, baskets of honey, tins of biscuits, hobby horses, Gin (for Prince William), and a torch for Prince Harry.
Friday - Harry and Meagan are at Bondi Beach this morning, I wonder if someone will try to slip Harry a pair of Budgie Smugglers? :laugh5:

Oh my goodness, they have just presented Harry with a special pair of budgie smugglers with his name on them, the pattern is either the Union Jack or the Aussie flag, not sure. Also a big jar if Vegemite with his name on it. :laugh5:

Time for this to see the light of day again I think......

Laguna Beach California 1981..... Looking at this and looking at the state of play today I am reminded of one of Shaw's characters in a play. He looked across the room at a lady of indeterminate age and said" There are about her the remains of a fine woman"....... Quite!

This could easily been a mystery object. The end result of the swarms of Ladybirds we had the other weekend.
Not sure what the collective term is for this group, clutch, posse or loveliness. No doubt someone in OG will tell me.

The first time I ever went to LA there was a radio report that the inhabitants of Laguna Beach had been driven out by a wildfire and they had 'suffered freezing night time temperatures of 40F'. I knew then that I would like the climate!

I've just heard something quite amazing on 'Tweet of the Day' on R4. The bird today was a bar-tailed Godwit. Using satellite tracking one bird set the record for the longest known non-stop flight. On the way from Alaska to New Zealand it was tracked flying over 8,000km non stop over the ocean. During the course of that flight it lost half its body weight and slept by shutting one side of its brain down at a time. I think they said it took 9 days. Quite amazing!

They're pheasant, we feed them under the bird feeders.
