MEDICAL MATTERS
Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Possibly a bit too blunt Marilyn. Like myself Stanley is on the wrong side of the average age expectancy and although we potter along at our own speed there is always in the background the knowledge that we are on the wrong side of the dreaded statistics. Then something medical goes wrong and what happens; they whisk you away into an unfamiliar surrounding push an instrument up your pee pipe and take a lump out of your bladder. The first stages of rendition doesn't get as bad as this. The operation is declared a success but after years of experience you are aware that people still die after these successful operations. Then the big 'but', we'll let you know when we've had a closer look at it. Thanks a lot, that has just put my mind at rest no end. Then after all this "We would like to keep you in for further tests", its not surprising its met with. 'bugger that for a game of soldiers, I'm off'. Yes we would all react differently but I can't blame Stanley for getting back to his own home and the routine that he is comfortable with.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
P! What an accurate and concise summation of the situation. That does me no end of good, thanks. Maz was a bit blunt and to be honest I started my response by saying so but on reflection decided no, that's why we love the woman, she speaks her mind. We may not always agree but she's entitled to her opinion and I respect that.
By the way, it looks as though she is getting fed up with the login problems, that doesn't surprise me. If you read this Maz don't give up on us you are too valuable to lose! The Brains are at work on the problem and I have no doubt they will come up with a solution. They have never failed us yet.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
You were lucky nothing went wrong Stanley. Would it have been difficult to stay a few more hours as originally planned? No wonder Susan was stressed having to collect you at that time and taking you home against medical advice, she probably had a sleepless night worrying about you.
I have taken plenty of medical advice in the last 12 months all of which I have taken. I was diagnosed with recto/anal cancer which meant I had to have a colostomy bag which is non-reversible, I also had to travel to Preston every day for 5 weeks for radio therapy and chemo tablets, followed 2 months ago two sessions of brachytherapy at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the Wirral one of which entailed an over night stay. I now have to live with the fact they cannot operate to remove what is left because of my COPD. I will always take their advice.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Morning Moh, nice to hear from you!
Yes, well everyone has an opinion and I respect you all. All I can do is follow my own course and live with the consequences, if any. At the moment I am fine and functioning even better than before. I am so grateful to Hassan, my GP, for being on the ball and catching the little cauliflower so early. The surgeon said it was as clean an excision as he had ever done and that was borne out by the speed of my recovery and complete absence of pain at any time. They were brilliant and I told them so. I have all the next tests and appointments arranged.
Onwards and upwards!

Moh, it's good to hear from you but I'm sorry to hear you've had so much trouble. You must be tough to cope with all that.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Did you even read Moh's post Stanley? She has not had a good time of things at all. A little compassion for someone else's suffering would go a long way.
For heaven's sake...Moh is so very dear to us all.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Amen to that Maz. There is a time when some 'bluntness' is appropriate. This is such a time.
Moh - good to hear from you again though your absence is quite understandable. I wish you well for the future. I've missed your contributions. I think of you every time I use my (third) halogen Oven. It was your endorsement that persuaded me to get one. Thanks - it's great.

Best wishes and regards, Moh.
Tripps, do you mean you have had 3 halogen ovens or that you have 2 other ovens in addition to the halogen one? I was just wondering what had happened to the first two halogen ovens if that is the case.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Sorry to hear that you have been having such a tough time Moh, but it is good to hear from you. One of the major problems with treatment these days is the distances that have to be travelled to get to the specialist centres, going to Preston every day for chemo must have been completely exhausting.
Please keep reporting back to let us know how you are doing.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Yes I did read Moh's post and I certainly did not mean to be blunt. I was knocked out by seeing her post. If that's how I came across I apologise Moh without reservation. I do respect your opinion, it's just that I have a different one. I feel terrible now..... that was totally not what I wanted to convey.
I wonder if I'm getting a bit too sensitive, it would seem so. I shall have to be much more careful!
Love to you all!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I sense some confusion here between Moh and Maz. I'm reluctant to comment and will say no more.
Off topic but answering a query -
As it happens both scenarios are true I do have three ovens including the Halogen - which is the third such I've owned. Number one's main glass vessel was dropped on to the sink during washing, and number two's element failed. I bought a new element but was unable to change it. Destroyed it whilst getting the old element out.
Each time it was cheaper to buy another than fix the problem. Thanks to Chinese efforts.
The other two are in a range cooker which I inherited when I moved here. I don' t use either much, and do most cooking in a wok. Again thanks to China.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I logged out and sat down for a read but I can't get this out of my head. I feel terrible as it's obvious that I have managed to upset everyone. Please will you all forgive me and believe that I never intended to give the impression that I was not sympathetic to Moh. It was the furthest thing from my mind. Please forgive what was obviously an unintended meaning. I can't remember ever feeling so unhappy...... I apologise unreservedly to everyone!
Moh, I respect your opinion and you are having a much worse time than me. Please will you forgive me as well?
I shall log out again and hope for some peace of mind.......

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
And I take your point Moh and respect it.
I do have sympathy for your position. I read the list and thought "here's me feeling sorry for myself when....."
Thanks for responding to my plea. I was dreading coming on the site this morning. I feel much better after your post but believe me I will be a lot more careful with my words from now on! Probably I needed the lesson......
You're a strong woman, and I hope you continue to manage the situation as well as you are obviously doing now. Big hug from me.
David, dead right mate!

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
No comment from me Stanley, i may have shown dismay if it had been my Dad but I always try to respect another persons opinions. As I say to people, be in that persons shoes for a while then you have the right to comment. Anyway, its all done now and as I used to say to Dad you can’t look back only forward. You can’t change what has passed but only use the experience for the future.
If you keep searching you will find it

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Moh...I am interested to know if your cancer was detected by Bowel Screening. Our Bowel Screening arrives as a kit in the mail ( like it or not
) every 2 years. They start when you turn 50 here. One just pops the test back through the post.
One can ignore it of course, but we don't.

Same here Maz, we get a home testing kit in the post but it's when you reach 60.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
See THIS BBC report on Matt Hancock's 'vision' of more prevention of disease from the NHS to combat the rise on rise of the need for funding. It sounds eminently sensible but..... some critics are pointing out that buried in the small print of the budget is evidence that spending on Social Medicine, which is the heading this initiative come under, is going to fall. How do the two matters square up? Is this simply another hollow promise?

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I tried posting this a couple days ago but the site bounced me out. Sorry to hear of your problems Moh, I wish you well with any further treatment you may have.
For my journey, I received a call from the RakeHead ward at Burnley General last week to arrange an appointment for neuro physio via their department. Seems like Laura has been busy sorting that for me.
Emma will be coming to see me tomorrow at 1pm for assessment and formulating a treatment plan. I will be seeing Laura (probably for her last session with me) at LGI on Wednesday.
Booked to get a call from Hassan to help me with filling the form in for notifying the DVLA of my condition. You go online and there is a massive list of notifiable medical conditions. All have links from them so I clicked on the one for Meningioma and it took me to a downloadable 6 page PDF. Problem is, it seems to be a one form fits all kind of deal as after the first page of name, address, contact details, Doctor, Consultant, treatments and dates seen. It then goes off at at a tangent and the rest of the document is about seizures and epileptic fits, dates, duration etc, none of which is relevant to my actual symptoms or current condition. I get the feeling that if I fill it in wrong I will never drive again.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
That's a worry Ian and one you could well do without. I can remember the day when a simple certificate from your GP did the job. Best of luck with it.
I too am expecting a call from Hassan this morning..... Then flu jab at 15:12 at the health centre.
