Next session in Barlick is Tuesday 3rd July. I have my slot booked for 14.45

If you want to donate, get yourself down to Rolls at the afternoon or evening sessions, more donors are always needed. You know it makes sense, do something amazing....

I have just cancelled my previously arranged appointment as I am no longer viable as a donor. My last session was the final one from me and I will no longer be eligible. I have given 30 odd armfuls over the years and was hoping to continue but that is not to be. I would still encourage all those who are eligible to donate. The service needs every donor it can get, only 4% of eligible donors regularly attend. Please, if you can, take my place and do something amazing.

You're in the same boat as me now Ian! Unclean! My mother never missed giving blood until old age prevented it. She always encouraged me to to do the same.

A big thank you to all donors. Saved my little girl in China recently. Interestingly she is B group, her mother is O, and I'm A (I'm not a blood relative) so we were a well mixed family! I presume her father would be B??

If the mother is group O and the child group B, the father is either group B or AB.

Been looking at my eligibility as a donor again and their is still a chance that I may be able to return to donating. Neurosurgery does not preclude you from donating as such depending on your recovery and being free of any post operative infection. :good:

I am going to wait until after my first MRI scan to make sure all is OK. That's next Wednesday, I will have the results before the next session so will go back then for the interrogation to see if they will still have me. I will be over 6 months post op by then, nothing on the website to preclude me.

I donate quicker from my right arm than the left. I can be in and out in half an hour from the right or three quarters if I offer the left.

They could only ever find a vein in my right arm, they used to really struggle if they tried my left, but once in it flooded out.

I got this a few days ago from the vampires

Thank you so much for donating on 10-Jan. Your donation has now been issued to Wythenshawe Hospital. Every donation counts.

Yes, I used to get a text shortly after donation to tell me where my armful had gone. I am going to book at the next session and see if they will have me back. I should have my scan results by then.

I got an email invitation from NHSBT to the March 19th donor session at Rolls. An encouragement to book email so I did just that, or a least tried to. Followed the link to the donor site, logged in to my account, selected the March 19th session but all appointments slots are booked! Never no mind, they have another session on April 11th so I have booked myself for a slot at 15.00. I will have my MRI results by then and probably a nice letter from my Consultant (see Medical Matters) so I will take these to back up my pitch for a return to the donor pool. :biggrin2:

That sounds like another step forward in the recovery programme Ian, you will get a real boost if they accept you. If they don't you are no worse off. The very fact that you want to go is encouraging. I hope they see sense!

As far as I can see there is nothing in the medical advice for donors that should exclude me. I didn't have a blood transfusion, no infections, on no meds and I will be over 6 months post surgery when I go. I am the right side of my dental checkup and the last alien needles I had in me were in January for the MRI contrast dye. A bit of a limp but otherwise fit as a butchers dog from a donation point of view. We will see what the dark blue nurse says. :extrawink:
