The beef and veggie was almost ready by dinnertime so I had some of the veggies and gravy with a steak pudding. For tea I had some more plus a Scotch Egg. Then I fell off the wagon! Kath had given me some Jersey Double Cream that was just out of date and I had some with a bit of apple pie. (Sorreeeee)

Steak pudding and veggies from the stew for dinner. Straight stew for tea. (I had the last of the apple pie and cream for pudding.....)

Bit of a scratch meal last night - all done in a bit of a hurry. I baked a potato which is not something that happens very often - if at all. I mention it because it was an 'Albert Bartlet' spud which had caught my eye and aroused my curiosity in Sainsbury's.

Just chucked in the microwave for ten minutes or so, then five minutes in the Halogen to crisp up the skin. Add a splodge of coleslaw, and a few chipolatas. It was the best baked potato I've ever had. :smile:

I (of course) checked it all out on the web, and found that they are an enormous company in spuds, and my variety was Elfe Recommended. :good:

I love Baked Spuds. I like them filled with Coleslaw, Beetroot, Cheese and Sour Cream.
Wraps for us tonight...filled with Lettuce, Cheese, Mayonnaise and crunchy cooked Fish Fingers.

I like them also but unfortunately they are forbidden fruit these days. I had the beef and onion stew X two for dinner and tea....

I don't think an odd baked spud would do much harm as you enjoy multiple steak puddings with lots of suet pastry. Swap one pudding for a potato?

I've done some 'research' on steak puds recently. Compared Hollands (frozen) from Morrison's at 50 pence each, with Sainsbury's (fresh) at £1.75.

Result - save your cash - Hollands are as good, even though I can't be bothered to steam them as advised, but just use the microwave.

I didn't look the stat's up but I rest my case. Variety is a good thing. :extrawink: :smile:

I'm having Lamb Zalfrezi (recovered from the freezer from last weeks batch) and rice for my tea, might have half a naan to go with it. :smile:

I'll stick to my steak puddings from Browns thank you, they are the best I have ever had. I always steam them for two hours, makes the pastry lighter and it's very thin anyway.
No dinner yesterday, had the stew for tea.....

I divided what was left of the stew. I had a small amount plus a sausage for dinner and a full bowl for tea.

Chicken Korma, small serve of Rice (about 2 soup-spoons-ful). No bread.
Lovely, but I couldn't eat it all.

Join the club Maz. Jack off his grub and I haven't exactly been enthusiastic. Good job really in my case, I've been comfort eating, or to be more accurate, making sure my immune system has adequate nourishment. (Lame excuse I know but it's the best I have...)

The last steak pudding with peas for dinner and for tea I had half of a double portion of 'Hunter's Chicken'(A couple of chicken breasts marinaded in sauce and with a cheese topping) with a small portion of rice.

Very upset day. I had 200gm of marinaded herring for dinner and at tea time had no appetite at all. I finished the apple pie and cream off and topped up with nuts and my 20gm of dark chocolate.....
I slow cooked a bunch of mutton chops in cider all day. They are ready for deboning and augmenting with Veggies which I got yesterday.

First job yesterday was debone the chops, prepare the carrots, Kale and cauliflower and get the stew under way. Not much dinner, Airedale interfered but I ate part of the Hunter's chickn, peas and rice from yesterday and threw the remainder away, not typical for me but there is a lot of infection in the kitchen at the moment! Better safe than sorry. By teatime the stew was on song so I had cauliflower, kale and stew gravy. Nuts, chocolate and an apple for afters. Not really very hungry as I am under attack at the moment but we must have fuel!

Dead simple and no effort. The Mutton and Veggie stew is on song and the veggies are still al dente. So I had it for dinner and tea reflecting the while that this was just the right sort of grub to promote recovery from recent attacks.... Chocolate, nuts and a Cox for afters. The Cox apples are finished, still on sale but they have reached their sell by date, I think I threw half of the last lot away.

I had the mutton stew for dinner and tea. It's very good and the veggies haven't gone to mush with overcooking! I took advantage of the fact that Susan was visiting with the car and she took me to the Butcher's shop (she wanted something for tea as well.) It seemed a good idea to take the load off me this morning carrying my shopping back from down Gisburn Road. I had paid and Stuart came in the shop and offered me a platter of lamb neck end cuts at £4 instead of the marked price of £6 so Susan paid for them. He said that he couldn't sell them and Knew I could cook them. This is getting to be a big problem in domestic lamb consumption, customers only ask for legs and shoulders and very few know how to cook the cheaper cuts. I'm sorry to hear that but it suits me, They are the base for a very good stew in a couple of days! I ordered half a mutton as well, only one boiling of mutton chops left.

I had one helping of the Mutton and veggie stew left so I divided it in two and added a Scotch Egg to each. I had that for dinner and tea. I shall start a new stew going today by slow cooking the Lamb neck that Stuart reduced for me, I shall leave it to slow cook in cider all day and add the veggies tomorrow.

Shopped at Morrison's yesterday. I bought a kilo bag of what were described as 'Wonky Onions'.for just 60p. As I suspected - they are in fact shallots - a bit small, due no doubt to last years dry summer, but still shallots. :smile:

Mad me think it was a reverse version of Peter Mandelson's mistaking mushy peas for avocado dip. :smile:

I had to laugh at the new Morrisons advert for their Wonky veg range and the fact that all they are selling is normal veg. It was noticed though that it has been escalated to "special" by packing it in plastic trays and film, something you don't get if you shop at a proper veg shop. We go to our local one, use a basket if we are getting a few bits, they all get weighed and put in the same shopping bag to bring home, some is wonky, some is not, it will all taste the same. :extrawink:
