Don't feel guilty. A point in the right direction might be appreciated, but beyond that they will never value the time and effort you could end up putting in. Let them do their own research and they will soon appreciate the effort it can involve!

Sunday seems to be one of the busiest days at Aldi, I've never seen their car park full but that probably says more about the times I choose to shop there. The 'Co-op' car park is not always an indication of how many people are actually in the shop as the car park is not exclusively for them, it's the most central to service the town.

I go to both at various times, more "bulk shopping though at Aldi I reckon). The car park assessment is correct from Kev all those in the Aldi will be at Aldi as there is nowhere else to go. The Coop car park will have the majority of town centre traders parked on there and is a convenient pickup and drop off place. Usually a few places spare but it doesn't stop folk illegally and dangerously parking around town.

Hubby bought himself a Pasta Machine yesterday ( which should come in handy when the kids visit! We can't eat loads of Pasta as we both have Diabetes). So he made Fettucini today for the first attempt. There will be enough there for an entree sized portion each.
We had a few laughs...it was fun to do.

It was only a taste test really, Stanley. I wasn't the least bit hungry, so only had a few mouthfuls...but the fresh Pasta was delicious. The kids will love Pasta when they visit.

Am I getting too cynical? It seems to me that whenever Brexit gets to a crisis point - in the last few months the Skripal saga is raised again in the press. I think Mrs May has just been down to Salisbury today - of course she has plenty of spare time for this sort of thing. No researched evidence, just a feeling.

You can't be too cynical about that woman David....
She gave a master class yesterday in the art of political speak which has now become a type of English..... When speaking about the widespread demand for action on knife crime she said "there is no direct correlation with funding" Note that this does not mean there is no link but most people will hear it that way. What she is saying is that no statistical evidence exists that 'proves' the link, an entirely different matter. They don't think we are capable of forensic textual analysis.... No wonder they all get to be barrack room lawyers! It's an essential skill for high office.

The first action in modern mathematics is to take things to their limit. In this case what would happen if you removed all funding? The answer is pretty obvious, all public order would break down. The reduction in support for young peoples activities means more youngsters roaming the streets with no direction and no control. The old cliché "when I was a kid, etc etc" no longer works in today's corrupt society. Even in Nelson there are No Go areas because of druggies and violence. Sorry, but more austerity and less funding equate to more violence.

The fact that I must be getting better! I am persuaded of this by the fact that the research and writing bug has it's teeth firmly embedded in me! I found an original print of Marton Hall on Ebay and bought it then the red mist descended and I found an 1878 ex-libris leather bound copy of Whitaker's History of Craven on Bookfinder for £90 which looked cheap to me. You've guessed it, I bought it. (Must stop buying books!)

I'm reading a historic novel set in Liverpool. Can anyone tell me what a "canny house" is? It seems to serve food. Is it a cafe/tea shop? The story is more about the relatives to the main character that live there, but I am interested to know. Are they only called that in Liverpool ( local dialect?).

Maz. 'Canny' to me is Geordie dialect and means something good and to be approved of, in this case 'canny house' would signal approval. I haven't come across it in Liverpool or the Wirral and I served in the army with a lot of lads from there, it was one of the main recruiting areas for the Cheshire Regiment.

Canny sounds Scottish to me, as in shrewd. A canny scot.
What year is the book set in, because there is a company in Liverpool called Canny (.com) that builds houses.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Begins in 1917. At the time of visiting relatives at the canny house, the child is 10...so 1927 at that point.
There are " tables and chairs" the lass walk through at the front and she goes through to the back to visit the relatives...but only during opening hours. After hours, that door is locked and they have to go to a different door around the side.
I think it's a cafe...or similar...and her Aunt "runs" the canny house, so it's a business. I shall read further and if I am enlightened, I shall let you know.

It sounds to me as though the sense is one of approval, that it is a good house.

Not good news about the Clinic unless it is to make way for a facility fit for purpose. On the travel issue, do you have a bus pass Stanley? They are free from LCC and it is also valid for Electoral ID at the polling station.

Looks like today is Pluggy's Birthday, Happy Birthday Stephen. :happybd: :mexwave:

I have a bus pass. It's the hassle of having to travel I object to when we have the facility in the town. You younger ones don't realise what a pain and a waste of time travel is for some of us.
I hope you have a very happy birthday Stephen. Many of 'em!
