There's a bit of a to do about the positioning of these. It has been pointed out and objected to that the street where they are is regularly coned off when there is an event on the town square. It also has minimum parking opportunity and is not really a through route. Coop car park has been suggested as a better alternative, I would tend to agree.

I heard today from one of my former science colleagues in New Zealand. He told how the best known industrial and academic chemist in NZ had died recently and there was a very big turnout for his funeral at the University of Otago. He had a big family and many colleagues and friends and was much liked, so it was a sombre occasion. It became even more sombre when the service was interrupted with the announcement of the terrorist attack just along the coast in Christchurch.

I've walked past them a few times and the vehicles, parked next to them, weren't plugged in...

I presume they're switched on :biggrin2:

Not sure how many of the locals have electric cars, not the whole issue of course they are there for anyone to use but no damn good at all if normal fuelled vehicles park in front of them, or the street is cordoned off. I can see this becoming an issue similar to the morons that park on the double yellows and zig zags on Church Street. I assume the parking wardens will ticket inappropriate parking there when they choose to visit the town. Must have a look to see if there are restrictions. Having said that, aren't these points a commercial endeavour, if that's the case they wont have the authority to enforce parking restrictions as they are not on private ground. Waste of time, money and space where they are.

I tend to agree, especially on access.
Did you see how 'successful' the new contract litter wardens have been?
Yet again I think about my 'Phillishave 2405' electric shaver. I've been using it for at least 30 years and it is as good as ever. Many years ago I bought a small simple sharpening kit for the blades and occasionally give it a service. Few things give service like this nowadays and when you have them, look after them. (I think about Ian and his favourite toaster!)

Strangely enough I just gave the Dualit toaster a de-coke yesterday. Well, I cleared its crumb tray and sandwich toaster cradle, gave it a good shake and then a wipe and polish. As one of the ads on TV says, "still winning" :good:

There was an electric car (a real one, not an hybrid) being charged on one of the new posts on Ellis street when I walked past today.

Got a labour flyer so probably a panbiker special. Nice colour job, not reeking of old engine oil.........

This will give the Tories a shock and should provide some support for Labour. Jim O'Neill is a former chairman of Goldman Sachs and was an advisor to Cameron's government and he's always worth listening to.

Nowt to do with me, this one was centrally produced for our PPC Azhar.

Never noticed that the ones I have a hand in reek of engine oil? Lib Dems must be the same as we use broadly the same technology. The days of offset litho have long gone, multicolour industrial copier is the way to go. :biggrin2:

Tories don't produce owt locally as they have lots of brass and it all has to be shiny. :extrawink:

I agree with all that, Ian, but it's going to be even harder to bring it about now with the right wing libertarians on the rise in Britain. It'll be like throwing petrol on a fire. I'm sorry to be pessimistic but we missed our chance and it's going to be a lot of bad before we see much good again, regardless of which way Brexit goes.

Whoops! I might have messed up Panbiker's last post, above. I was writing a reply to the past line of his post but it's all come out peculiar. Perhaps I clicked on edit instead of quote? But then why has Stanley's name got into it too?

Can't explain that Tiz, never mind.

Main thrust was that both Labour and the Lib Dems are likely to be the losers with this flawed trial. Only about 45 cased of personation at the polling station across the whole country last year. The main problem area is the postal votes always has been and all this initiative does is encourage more electors to request a postal vote or not bother at all.
