If you are a parent and have young children be aware that your choice of footwear for them is very important. Make sure they have good shoes with plenty of room for rapidly growing feet. Later in life they will thank you when they realise that the fact they have no abnormalities is down to the care you took. Young feet can so easily be damaged!

Today's tip is dead simple and perhaps obvious. If you are considering new floor coverings give some thought to the decorations, better to do the painting before the carpets! Sorry if that is too bleeding obvious but it's surprising how often it is forgotten.

...and if you have floorboards that squeak get them sorted before the new covering goes down. If you have a concrete floor consider getting the highest TOG value carpet to provide you with some insulation from the cold. Even better, if it's practicable to raise the floor level get a new floating floor on top of PIR foam insulation sheets, even 25mm of foam will make a big difference to heat loss from the room.

That's how I did Janet's floor in Perth.

Re-sawn reclaimed old high grown Jarrah. Lovely timber. They aren't allowed to fell them now.

I've no doubt that I have said this before but it's a good time of year for roof maintenance and other outside jobs like checking the drains. Don't wait until the weather is bad! I saw this time and time again in boiler maintenance when the advent of the heating season triggered a rush of clients wanting emergency attention.

Zips, both metal and plastic. They work a lot better if you rub the teeth with a candle end then work the zip. Lubricates the teeth and is non-staining, can be used on any zip.

Housework is never finished so we might as well accept this. Jack coughed once this morning, this is a sure sign he is picking up hairs from the carpet. So, nothing for it, take note of the signal and get the vacuum out!

If the brush in the head of your cordless hand held vacuum cleaner stops working don't despair and send for the repair man until you have checked for dirt on the contacts for the motor buried in the rim of the power unit. All you have to do if that is the case is clean them. (The air compressor in the shed is still the best thing for cleaning the filters and nooks and crannies ...) Mine failed and that was the reason, Jack hairs! OK now.

Even if you aren't a pipe smoker, a packet of pipe cleaners is always handy to have in the drawer. Made for keeping the bore of pipe stems clean they work just as well on anything with a small hole through it.

Never forget that the unconditional love that a dog gives you carries a price, eventually they die and you grieve. None dog people don't understand that but it can be just as big a shock as a human death. Life is a terminal disease so get used to it!

It happens with any pet that interacts with you, that returns your affections and that you have cared for properly. :disappointed:
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

If you eat too much for dinner because it is so good, don't panic. Just avoid eating at tea time! (That's what I did yesterday after a magnificent meal at noon....)

Exactly.
I am never hungry at noon. So if I must eat to be sociable, I don't eat dinner that night.

It was a lovely meal..... no regrets!

Today's tip is that if you normally wear a hat, don't sit out in strong midday sun. I got sunburned on my forehead and head on Wednesday. Not serious but a reminder!

If you are a woman who believes in choice when it comes to control of your body, particularly in cases of abortion after illegal or forced conception, don't even think about migrating to the US!

There are still dinosaurs out there Maz and what's happening in the US is evidence of it. The intention of course is to force the issue into the Supreme Court to challenge the existing precedent that allows choice, Roe v Wade.I suspect that this will cause a storm of protest!

Heard on World Service this morning. A 76 year old woman was asked what it was like to fall in love at 76. Her reply... "It's just the same as 17 years but with more urgency!" I think that thought can be today's tip!
