A bit like this motley crew Stanley? They have been stored in a box for over 20yrs waiting for their new owners ie grandchildren, and there's more of them, dolls too.

The Golliwog used to be perfectly acceptable but now is anathema. Robertson's jams and marmalade made an enamelled Golliwog badge as an advertising ploy. Again, not acceptable today.

The shop on the corner of Park Road/Rainhall Road had the ceramic golliwog band in the window a couple of weeks ago, I believe it sold very quickly so there's still a market for them.

Mr Potato Head (launched by Hasbro 1952)
He's 69yrs old and more than 30 licensed characters have been created.
In 1987 he lost his pipe due to pressure from the anti-smoking lobby. He has recently become popular again due to his appearance as one of the characters in the enormously popular animated Toy Story films.
There are 350 Mr Potato Head parts and pieces available.
More than 100 million have been sold.

We have a shop that sells Golliwogs. I don't know what level of trade they do in Golliwogs.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought "Black Mama" dolls more offensive to Golliwogs? ( Black Mama dolls looking like maids, wearing aprons, with heads covered with scarf)

Probably bought by Tommy Robinson while he was in Barlick to wind up Stanley by putting that leaflet through his letterbox.

I'm still trying to work out why that came. High quality colour print, I wonder who financed it?

You got it because he will be on your ballot paper.

Have a look at the imprint, that should tell you the promoter (which is the agent) and you should also see who printed it. Doesn't tell you who financed it but there are plenty of well heeled Nazi's supporters around.

You will have one vote in the ballot and you can vote for a single party or any of the individual candidates or independents.

CATHY...I have saved nothing for grandchildren. It has been drummed in to me there will not be any grandchildren! So I throw all sorts of stuff away...or take it to the charity shop. It was hard to part with the (teddy) bears, but someone will love them.

Do I spy a teddy I made in the group you photographed? Seems familiar...

I did ask Chels if she could remember what she called the teddy, but sadly no.

Something that always struck me as strange was the way that playground and street games used to alter. One minute everybody was playing whip and top and next thing you knew it was marbles or bowling hoops. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the shifts in fashion. Skipping ropes were fairly constant for the girls I think.
Later of course advertising and commerce realised that the young were a market and we got things like Hula Hoops.
I like the fact that the kids in the back street still chalk games on the street. Someone told me one day that it made a mess. I said that it didn't bother me and a good shower cleaned it all away. I like to see it..... They still do what we used to do, obstacle courses of skipping squares....

I just looked to see where the word Hopscotch came from. It used to be called Scotch Hopper, scotches being the marks on the ground and nothing to do with Scotland where the game is called Peevers.

My hopscotch slate was a very cherished possession at one time.

I stand corrected, the Robertson's Golliwig Band is still in the shop. They were manufactured by Wade, I nearly bought the set but couldn't justify £65 on 'ornaments'

Its no more use than an ornament. But if gives you pleasure and raises a smile every time you look at it, why not. Ornaments are very personal things not to be judged by others on cost alone.

I think Conor's knicker prints come under that heading.....
The wooden scooter the joiner at father's works made for me during the war. Hours of fun and entertainment at a time when that was thin on the ground.
