Today's tip...Don't make the mistake of roasting Scotch Eggs to warm them up. I did it yesterday in a forgetful moment and it was like cast iron, I had a hell of a job cutting into it.

This should really be in Pets Corner but it's a brilliant household hint if you have cats! Our 13 year old long haired cat Feeby developed some thick matting on her back and at the base of her tail this year, something that has never happened before. She turned into a vicious wee beastie every time I tried to get near them and I was thinking that a vet visit might be the only answer so I turned to Mr Google instead. Numerous posts suggested using a few drops of olive oil or coconut oil placed as near to the base of the mat as possible, leave for a couple of days and then watch the mat drop off!
It works, even the biggest tangle just took 3 days to fall off and now I have a comfortable, slightly glossy Feeby.

That sounds like a really good hint Wendy. I'll bet it works on dogs as well so I shall bear it in mind.....

Today it's another oldie but deserves another mention because it's so important and I suspect little known and practised. Always listen to your body, it never lies. Take notice and act on what it tells you taking note of how small changes in your routines can have an enormous effect and keep you away from the doctor.
One simple example, if your back is bothering you, think about your usual sitting position and try changes like seat hight and the angle of your back. We tend to get into bad habits and the exercise of reviewing them is very productive.

Wendy I wish I had known about the olive oil treatment when I had long haired cats many years ago... Oh , the grooming . In the end I used to take them to the vets and have their tummies and under their legs shaved.
We didn't buy olive oil back then and there was no internet. A very good tip.

Cathy, I can remember when the only people who stocked Olive Oil were the chemists. All we used it for was pouring in our ears. Nobody thought of cooking with it.

I have a feeling that any fatty substance would do the trick, not just olive oil. There is something in olive oil that is supposedly toxic to cats but you need so little that it hardly matters. Feeby is very perky after her treatment and is allowing us to stroke along her back again.

The flashing is only occasional now but the extra floaters are taking a bit of getting used to. The drops are making my eyes a bit red and sore but nothing major. The call about further appointments didnt come yesterday.

When I got the detached retina the operation to weld it back together involved draining the fluid from the eye and replacing it with an artificial medium which over time is absorbed and replaced by your own. I told the surgeon that one of the great benefits of this was that all the floaters I had gathered over the years vanished and could he please do the same for the left eye which still has its floaters. It's a drastic way to find this out but if you do get to the point where you need surgery bear that in mind, it's a definite plus!
I hope you don't need that and that whatever caused the problem recedes.

Pretty obvious really. Leave the diagnostics and treatment to the experts. You've done the right thing by seeking treatment. Remind them if necessary about the appointment.

P. If you are referring to floaters, it may be obvious with hindsight but it's a revelation when it happens to you.
Today's tip. Look after your feet. If you have bad feet nothing else can be right!

My BS is fine thank you. In fact my doctor Hassan referred to all my readings as 'textbook'.
I was listening to a news report on the fashionable trend for 'mindfulness'. It struck me that when I was talking about listening to your body I was getting very close to endorsing it. Worrying!

"Cook's Nips"....is something I believe in. If I have to cook a major meal for people, a small glass of wine, sipped slowly, does help the process! (It often means I have to go without in any pre-dinner drinks because I need to make sure dinner is perfect). But once it is all underway, within 15 mins of serving, I think a "Cook's Nips" is well in order.

If you need to `do a big supermarket shop' but at the moment just can't face it go online, place an order and get it delivered. We usually prefer to visit the shop because some items we want aren't available online, but sometimes it's better to ignore that and get them to deliver. Be cautious to make sure you've told them `no substitutions' or you can end up with some strange items you didn't want (it's odd what they think can replace what you ordered).
