Our town hosts "schoolies week" in a few weeks time. We will be invaded by school-leavers...all ready to party for nights on end. Our seaside lawn area will be all security screened off for their rock concerts, with ambulances and a mobile medical centre quietly parked nearby. Most of the kids stay in tents in the caravan parks, as no other holiday rentals will accept them. A lot of shops shut up, due to previous experience of shoplifting. The food outlets do well, of course. We always find there is a lot of rubbish gets discarded in the streets and the town can look pretty shabby during schoolies week. ( an army of volunteers does a clean up afterwards).
Every year, the kids do their utmost to look outrageous. This amuses us, because they look just like last year's bunch, and the year before's bunch. ( the coloured hair, the ripped clothes, the heavy make-up and wearing shorts that are so short, they are indecent).

Just a few desultory bangers at about 20:00 last night. Jack was upset by them but fortunately he'd emptied his bladder before they went off. Nowhere near what we usually get. Tonight will be the test as there is the funfair and fireworks at Victory Park from 3Pm to 8PM.

Maz, you and Febby should walk through the crowds of kids in your normal clothes and you'd probably be a `sensation' and end up with your pics going viral on social media!

Came over Blubberhouses on Friday. No sign of Boris O'Storiths or Beamsley Bob. Village rumour is that they have gone to Japan with Mrs Trellis to enjoy the Rugby World Cup. Come to think of it one of the Japanese players looked remarkably like Boris. Nolic

I checked with my Beamsley connections and think you are right Comrade. Word is that Mrs Trelliss made a killing on Flog It selling the ventilator tiles from the old drying kiln to finance the trip. The estate is not pleased!

I see that David's fairies have erected their tent in the square ready for the switch on of the emitters on 16th November. Stock up with foil!

I'm thinking I won't bother with the foil this year. I'm feeling in one of those risk taking moods. It may pass, of course. I may comply at the last moment.
:biggrin2: I am keeping my options open until I get accurate reports of risk levels.
I rely on OG of course...

Seems a bit early for the switch on, is it not for Remembrance Sunday?

The large emitters in the Town Square and the small ones on shops are in place. Some of the latter are already lit.

Asda have screened their annual Xmas advert. Tear-jerker as usual.
The Cross Keys has full Xmas lighting on the frontage. Pressure is slowly building.

Mrs Tiz showed me an ad for an advent calendar where each box had a tiny bottle of gin! A mere £100 price tag. :surprised:

The adverts for Chrisco at this time of year always make me wonder. Their plans are designed so that you contribute all year - for the next Christmas- it isn’t going to happen in just a few weeks, but you don’t see them advertising during the year.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

A Lakeland catalogue arrived through the door. The back cover features an ad for their crackers that contain little plastic Santas that can be raced on a board. There are even extra bits of material to customise your own Santa racer. Whatever next?

Cathy, those outfits used to be common here but after a well publicised failure of one of the largest they seem to have receded into the old 'Xmas Club' land. Perhaps the thinking is that the best time to advertise their service is when people are regretting the consequences of giving in to pester power.
And plastic as well! Haven't they been watching the news?
The life size Polar Bears are back in James Bontoft's window (Optician in Barlick). I thoroughly approve and have told them so. Brilliant!

Most of the emitters are functioning but there are one or two exceptions. Same scale as last year, no obvious cut backs.
TV advertising is gearing up now. No sign of the Coca Cola road train here yet.

Quite a few of the Xmas Trees on shop fronts are not lit. The whole of the Fountain Inn block and a large number in Town Square. Attention needed by a sparks!
