We watched it Stanley, not 100% on it as yet, but think it has the makings.

Like Col, I'm not keen on seeing a lot of blood, but I did sit through George McGavin taking part in a post-mortem on a porpoise. The worst bit was when they opened up the lungs and he pulled out lots of long parasitic worms!

I share Col's aversion but mine is more to do with graphic kills, nature red in tooth and claw. I know it's reality but I prefer my shed!
I watched the first episode Gloria, not overly impressed but I'll give it a chance. Question is, should we have to do this? I remember hearing an author say that the best books hook you with the first line. I think he/she was right.

I agree with you Stanley, they should have you from the off. Not watched last nights episode, we were watching Burnley get thrashed, we will catch up with it tonight.Stanley wrote: ↑23 Jun 2020, 03:17 I share Col's aversion but mine is more to do with graphic kills, nature red in tooth and claw. Re: GOOD TV
"It Was the Best of Times; It Was the Worst of Times
This phrase has been taken from the famous opening paragraph of Charles Dickens’ novel, A Tale of Two Cities. The novel opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”
My favourite follows Snoopy:- "It was a dark and stormy night".

Re: GOOD TV
Caught up with The Luminaries last night, either it takes some keeping up with, or it’s my age, but I don’t find it easy, and it looks like getting very strange. Also watched Talking Heads, one old one and one new one, Sarah Lancashire is brilliant.

Re: GOOD TV
Why do I think of this with Wendy's Jane Eyre quote?
"A mouse took a walk in the deep dark wood, the mouse found a nut and the nut looked good"
Probably because I have read it hundreds of times!

Re: GOOD TV
It was a dark and stormy night, and the brigands sat in their cave, and the captain said to Antonio, come on lad and tell us a tale, and thus he began.....it was a dark and stormy night etc etc etc.

Re: GOOD TV
I have abandoned it, I want entertainment not a challenge. I watched a coup[le of films on a narrow gauge railway serving a coal mine in Szechuan, dead simple, fascinating and a real glimpse into life in the region, covered the mines, railway and also markets, cricket and how people live. Lovely scenery as well. Beats the Luminaries for me any day. Look up railways and Dickinson on Youtube. (LINK)

This is fascinating TV - Samira Ahmed's `Art of Persia'. A history of Persia/Iran that helps put today's Iran into perspective. iNews

I watch TV for entertainment not mind games!
Last night I went to Youtube and watched the Good the Bad and the Ugly one more time and bathed in Ennio Morriconi's music.
