99% of my washing goes in at 30 degrees, 40 degrees for 'white' washing. The occassional 'boil' wash for the steam cleaner mops and to clean the machine :good:

Give modern laundry detergent a try at low temperature, it's a powerful emulsifier!

Peter, you're talking to a man who was reared in the era of coal-fired coppers in the wash house in the back yard. Old habits die hard. :biggrin2:

Never put a yellow duster in with a load of washing! I have to report I did it and this morning after a 60C wash I have a load of washing with a slight yellow tinge. Good job it wasn't a hot wash! :biggrin2:

'People' won't be seeing my knickers Peter, those days have gone. :biggrin2:
I once lived with a man in a mobile home on S Carolina for five days and was asked by someone if I thought he was having a relationship with his secretary. I said I thought not because I had seen the state of his underwear which was a disgrace! It transpired that that assumption was correct.

As we watch what looks like a resurgence of the pandemic we should all remember to keep up our personal protection habits. Social distancing, avoidance of touching surfaces like hand rails and our internal anti infection measures in the home, hand washing and clean towels and wipers in the kitchen. My bleach routine round the sink and my pint pot continues unabated. We are constantly reminded by the scientists of the importance of these personal actions. Question is, is this message getting through loud and clear? I fear not.

Today's tip. Don't get your hopes up for any slackening of restrictions due to Covid in the next few months. They aren't going to happen and could even get worse.

Occasionally we are all subject to sudden and unexpected circumstances, in particular, feeling unwell. The tip today is don't panic. Seek a reason before you start shouting for help and take some sensible measures. This will almost always lead to an improvement and a way out of the situation.

I am not one to rush off to the doctor. I have “white coat syndrome”, so even going to the doctor for my six monthly scripts for Metformin and Blood Pressure pills makes me come out in a sweat for days beforehand. Doctors and Dentists are almost impossible to face...I know this is an unreasonable reaction, yet I truly feel the stress.
So if I front up to a doctor, believe me, I have a real reason for going.
I hate sitting in the waiting room. I just want to do a runner.
So I am all for looking for reasons not to go, and avoiding having to front up!

July was the first time I’ve been to a doctor in 8yrs. I only went because I had to be medically cleared so I could go back to volunteering.
I’ve of course had ailments in that time, but luckily not anything that really required seeing a doctor.
I really don’t like having to see a doctor, but then who does?
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Both of you illustrate exactly what my strategy is. As I mentioned earlier, I believe that the fact my BP readings are now back to normal is a product of not worrying about doctors, cancer, diabetes and appointments. I may be wrong but it feels fine! :biggrin2:

The day off and big sleep worked better than any pills! Back to normal now.
Today's tip, your grandmother was right, sleep is the great healer. Conversely, lack of sleep is, in the end, a killer. So many people are ignorant of this.

I agree that was a ludicrous remark Peter but don't let it blind us to the fact that a dilute solution of hot water and bleach is a very efficient Covid Killer. I have just done my daily routine on the sink, worktop and cleaning artefacts and in the process done my hands as well. As you yourself said when I first suggested this, perhaps they should put me in charge of hygiene! One thing is certain, my worktop, sink and waste pipe are as clean and germ free as is practicable. You can't do better than that.

Before you complain about the weather, have a look at what others are getting. This has been true for the last few days for the UK, we have been well treated by the weather gods. Then look at Northern Italy and parts of France. They are having unprecedented bad weather which makes even the worst we get look benign. Count your blessings, there is much to be said for an island with a maritime climate!

You have to have faith in something and these days one of the best bets is the weather forecast, it is usually right. Don't lose faith when it leads you astray as happened to me this morning, I went out early and the rain hasn't arrived yet. This is unusual and I shall continue to trust it! (On the positive side, I had a pleasant dry walk.)

Today's tip, we are all of us (the sensible ones anyway!) getting adept at looking after our physical bio-security. Give equal attention to mental state and well-being. It could actually be a bigger threat than Covid.

Thinking about a recent conversation about coming home late to a cold empty house my mind goes back to my days on the tramp. That was hard but I knew I was eventually heading back to a secure base, a warm house full of family. I realise now that that was what kept me sane and into the collar! Never underestimate it!

Occasionally you are faced with a domestic accident. I have found out over the years that there is always a solution but getting angry doesn't cut it. You have to stay calm, assess the situation, work out a strategy and apply it. As if by a miracle, the problem will go way. :biggrin2:
