How do you do that? I logged in from the tablet, and then found I was locked out from the phone.
All a bit academic now as I find that when I try Whatsapp I get absolutely nowhere, and have largely given up on it.

Here we go with a Tripps special tutorial.
First a disclaimer. (1) Know nothing about relative merits of Tablets V Laptops. (2) If it works remember the competition is about pointless pursuits.
Make sure the WiFi is on. Leave both Tablet and phone on at all times. Don't switch either of them off.
On your 'whatever' log onto. https://web.whatsapp.com/
Finding this is the most difficult bit. it should give you ultimately get a QR Code that looks like this...

I can only show a reference to it because once you have completed the exercise you get the chats etc.
Save the URL as a bookmark. you will need it later.

Now for the phone.
On the Moto open whatsapp. It will probably open up on 'Chats'. In the top right hand corner tap on the three dots for the drop down menu.
New group'
New broadcast'
Whatsapp web
Starred Messages
Settings.

Tap on Whatsapp Web
At the bottom there should be an instruction ..
Tap + to use WhatsApp on other devices (grayed out) forget this area and go look at the top of the phone.

Top right hand corner tap the + sign.
This will switch your camera on.

Use the camera to scan over the CR code on the Tablet. Hold it until the phone gives a buzz.
Providing you said the magic word 'Please' and held your breath that should be it.

Being a novice at this sort of thing making a later whatsapp connection. switch the phone on. and open Tablet with the URL which you saved.

Well - that's 15 minutes I'll never get back, but after your kind work it would be rude not to try.
I've got it on the laptop now, and the tablet, but still can't get it to do anything meaningful. I can't even get to the photos it was all intended for me to see.

I got some new photos yesterday, but via a link to google photos or some such. I managed to see them and even download a few, but Whatsapp seems to have gone out of favour - or perhaps there was someone in the group he didn't want to see them.

Thanks for your help - but I shall now delete it from all devices, and get on with my life. I' ve got three different essential cloud storage sites to look after, and Evernote want me to upgrade.

I had finger print recognition on my IPad, but had to get rid of it. I found it didn’t work if I had just washed my hands or had recently been washing up. Must wash the oils off your skin or something. Anyway, with so much hand washing going on just now, it was frustrating me. I’ve gone back to a number unlock code.

I am eternally grateful that Pluggy sorted me out with Whatsapp, phone and the desktop and I have never looked back. I have a request from Kenya pending at the moment..... Just had a message from the Pilbara as well as one from Margaret in Perth. The one from Laura had pics and a video so I have been in the desert! I love Whatsapp!
As my phone never leaves my desk and doesn't have any sensitive data like banking on it I didn't put any security measures into it and I think that was the best way. Keep it simple as Plugs says.

Sorry it didn't work but in a way I'm not surprised. My phone is Android 10. others may be slightly different. Sometimes screens pop up that you've never seen before all adding to the confusion then there is the 'WORDS' different bits of kit tend to do the same thing but describe them in a different way. All very confusing shouldn't have to spend 5 minutes thinking what does that mean?

Hubby has an Android. ( he doesn’t get on well with mobile phones). He was upset because so many of his work calls were going to Answer Bank despite trying valiantly to answer them. So I stood beside him and phoned him via my mobile. Turns out he was swiping RiGHT, yet the screen quite clearly said “swipe UP”. Problem solved. He had never read the instruction.
He gets all his calls now. ( unless he has ducked to the loo).

You need to thank the guys and gals at Facebook for that particular miracle of modern tech.

I have no lockdowns of any kind on my phone apart from the banking app which is a four digit pin, it's just more to remember.

Is it me getting a bit paranoid about the NHS covid-19 App. After spending some time reading the blurb on the app about which venues are required to display the QR location matrix code, mainly those areas where some long time personal contact may occur and where the alternative to photographing the QR code is to write down your contact details the majority of which made good practical sense and would be happy to comply with. I then noticed that supermarkets and shops that had customer movement didn't need to display these codes. From this it became a bit of a surprise that B&Q had a code at their entrance. Nothing wrong with another layer of assurance you may say but equally this may be an additional layer of data collection that B&Q can split off for their own use. In the mandatory areas which use the QR code its quite clear this data collection is for the track and trace only but in the optional areas this ruling gets a bit fuzzy. Perhaps its a sign of the times that we worry that we are being pulled in directions we don't want to go.

I hope the Covid App doesn’t “sell on” information.
I am not saying they do, but recently my husband had to return to the store where he recently bought a new phone because he could not get his email alerts working. Whilst in the store, he asked me to send an email to his phone from my IPad, just to show the helpful lass what problems he had. ( I have my own independent internet on my IPad as we use it when we travel).
The lass explained ( after I sent the email) that it would not be successful in store, as they have their own internet and if anyone sends a message etc in store, they just harvest it but don’t allow it through.
I got back in the car afterwards and wasn’t keen on them having “harvested” me.
True to my suspicions, I got dozens of weird and wonderful emails from everything from fresh vegetables to medical marijuana (!) for the next 24 hours. I blocked one after the other after the other.
So be careful using your phone/iPad etc in public stores and shopping centre. You may be “harvested” and details sold on.
I have no security worries as neither of us do banking etc on our electronic hand held devices.

Not virus related, just following on the above post about phones... Recently I took my phone into my local Telstra shop to use their wifi to have a large update done on my phone (it took ages), when I was checking my phone later I noticed a Solitaire icon on my desktop.
It wasn’t there before, I reckon the tech must have got bored and decided a game would be a good time filler. Cheeky bugger.

I sometimes find “updates” turn on my location services etc, which I like to turn off, and repeatedly turn off. Why does anyone need to know where I am if I take a photo etc?
I am sick of something over-ruling what I have set as my preference.
I recently downloaded a photo app, which told me exactly what date, day of the week, location, that I took a photo three years ago.i deleted the app. It wasn’t that good and failed in my expectation anyway. Did it enhance my life to know the photo was taken on a Friday afternoon in October?...
But in reality, such things annoy me and I feel quite invaded.

All reasons why I never take my phone out of the house and incidentally, why I am a fan of Ubuntu. I am not blind to the fact that even with these precautions I am as subject to 'harvesting' as anyone else but at least it's minimal and unobtrusive!

Not saying you are on your last legs Stanley or anything like that but I would say that it would probably be a good idea for a bloke your age to take a mobile with him. Especially at the times you go out for your morning walk, not many folk about to scrape you up if you take a fall. Bugger the paranoia, it's just not logical to have one and not use it for it's basic purpose.

Exactly being a tad paranoid about the tracing abilities (which you can disable) of a mobile phone in Stanley's case is a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. His entire life story is on here and in published form which is more than can be said for any of the other members to my knowledge.

I know that when I am out on a hill or the countryside on my own. I am rather glad that I carry a device that can pinpoint me to within a couple of feet if push comes to shove.

For anyone who has not heard of this app, have a look, all the emergency services are aware of this one. Covered before but worth another mention.

Well, that was a universal rejection of my point of view. You're all quite right but we are all allowed our idiosyncrasies! The phone stays on the table! Yes my life is open but not in terms of vulnerable matters like financial management. By the way, you'd be surprised how many people I regularly meet on my early morning walk apart from weekends. There is a regular 'early start' community.
(Besides, in case you haven't noticed, I quite like having independent views!)

My Motorola bat phone has been struggling for a while. It is getting on a bit and although still functional in the main, it will not run some of the latest apps and is complaining of running out of space for updates etc. It only has 8GB of memory plus the SD extension card.

Our Jack has just swapped contracts for a better deal and part of that is a new phone so he has passed his two year old Samsung S10 on to me. It's unlocked so no messing about with unlock codes and the like. I should be able to just swap my SIM into it and away we go. However the Micro Sim from the Moto is not micro enough it would seem, I need one even smaller to fit in the orifice provided. I have ordered a replacement from EE which should come next week, It will be pre configured with my existing number and will just need activating online. This Samsung should last a bit, it has the latest version of Android and 128GB of Ram.
