I watched the Who Do You Think You Are programme on David Walliams. I'm sorry to have to say it didn't engage me at all. This is probably just me getting jaded with the format. Sorry.

I watched Hidden Figures the other day which chronicles the story of three African American young women, Two who were mathematicians and one an engineer. They worked at Langley as "computers" in the late 50's and were pivotal but hidden figures in the Space Race. Set against the backdrop of the racial segregation at the time. NASA eventually realised that they were actually indispensable. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. Katherine was a brilliant mathematician, Dorothy self taught herself to program the first IBM computer at NASA and Mary was the first African American woman to go to an all white college to get the mechanics degree she needed to join the NASA program. They all eventually rose to senior roles within NASA and worked right through the early Mercury and Gemini and Apollo programs and the later Space Shuttle program.

Caught up with Ruth Jones in Who Do You Think You Are, very enjoyable and informative, well worth a watch. I just wish they would say where the information was sourced from, not everyone would know where to look.

I watched a film last evening called 'Defence of the Realm' - hard to realise it was only made in 1985.

1985. Thriller. Directed by David Drury and stars Gabriel Byrne, Greta Scacchi, Denholm Elliott and Robbie Coltrane. After an expose article is published, an MP dies in mysterious circumstances.

Lots of faces that have appeared regularly since in such as Midsummer Murders etc.

Interesting to see the changes from then to now. It was predictable that the 'baddies' turned out to be the Americans and the British security establishment (natch) , but seeing someone rushing round London in a car at high speed, with an A5 copy of the A-Z in his hand, and no use of computers at all was an eye opener.

All reports were typed on a manual typewriter. research done in the library reading room with old copies of newspapers. The photo archive was just that - lots of photos in brown envelopes stacked on shelves from floor to ceiling. It was filmed (pre Wapping) in the Times, and a very realistic 'banging out' ceremony was shown.

Interesting.

Binged watched The Sister last night, last one tonight. Worth a catch up, but sometimes hearing what they are saying can be a bit difficult, still worth going with.

Have you see 'Songs of Praise' recently?

Today from Dundee Scotland. Oh good thinks I - I like a bit of Scottish music. . . .

Introduced by a person who says he thinks of Jesus as a super hero, like Batman or Superman or Darth Vader, with copious illustrations. Cut to music from the Dundee African Gospel Choir. (Who knew ?)

Good grief - as Snoopy might have said.

Wait - Cliff Richards has come to the rescue. He's aging a lot better than me. . . .

Been watching re-runs of Spooks too they must have lifted the plotline.

Strange though about the typewriters , we had wordprocessors by 1984 (NewWord ? WordStar on a DEC)
