It was only a guess. The small profiles would suggest a small machine, a Swiss Automatic rather than a turret lathe. Could be brass as an alternative material. But really I don't know.

Ah Peter! You've got it. They are Ivory cutters for an ornamental turning lathe. I have scores of them, all beautifully made of of high carbon steel and sharp as razors and unfortunately no use for them!.

It might be your pic but that doesn't matter to Google. The Google Reverse Images search will match it easily to similar ones on the web. You and I are caught out with that! Beaten by AI! :smile:

Well done Gloria, you remembered correctly. These were used on ladders as a sort of scaffolding. Here's Peter Tatham using them on his house in Tims Terrace, Milnrow in 1986.

Well done Ian, You now hold the record for instant recognition, The chess set was brought home from Belgium WW2 by my dad in 1944, being a non smoker he would swap his cigarettes for little gifts for us.
