Nobody appears to be nibbling. It's a 9mm short cartridge case. Most likely fired from a Sten gun. They were a cheap light machine gun made during WW2.
STEN is an acronym, from the names of the weapon's chief designers, Major Reginald V. Shepherd and Harold Turpin, and EN for the Enfield factory.

I didn't know STEN was an acronym as you pointed out but then I've never fired a firearm in my 75 years on this planet.

Here is your next mystery object. There are about 100 in this bag. What are they used for?

They look too short to be ties for anything. They look a little bit lacy, maybe stretchy, do they ‘extend’ something?
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Bit of a long shot, but are they used for making something like a peg rug?

They look horribly like some kind of intestinal parasite but I assume that's not the correct answer!

I think China posted a new object because he thought the cartridge object must have been yours and you'd brought it to an end when you wrote `Nobody appears to be nibbling....'

Stanley was very knowledgeable about Ian's object and I assumed he was right. Apologies to Ian.
All wrong answers so far. Kevin, these could be used for that purpose but aren't designed to be. I only discovered these last week and my wife explained what is their real purpose. Sue would have found these useful on her arrival at her place in France.

Stanley is correct in saying that the rounds were used in the British STEN gun. However the markings WRA refer to Winchester Repeating Ammunition and the round is known as 9mm Parabellum and was widely used during WWII. It also chambers in the German Luger pistol and MP 40 sub machine gun amongst others.

Exactly. Used to cover food dishes and can be used in the microwave oven. We saw them being used when we stayed in the countryside a couple of weeks ago and my wife thought what a good idea they were. Big Kev's suggestion of shower caps wasn't far off the mark.

I wasn't familiar with disposable shower caps but I've just looked them up online and they do look identical. Perhaps that is what they are and we're putting them to a different use. You deserve a Brownie point. Award yourself a CDM. :biggrin2: :good:
