Thank you all. I spent most of this morning relaxing with a bit of Art. However we had a phonecall afterlunch to go and see dad . He is deteriorating but we managed to chat. He may pick up yet, he wants to make his 95th birthday on Feb 14th He is on more antibiotics. At least he is safe and warm and well looked after where he is.

Commiserations Sue. These unavoidable life experiences can be cruel, some of us are more lucky than others. You're right to concentrate on the positives, he is warm and well-cared for. I'd forgotten we shared the same birthday, tell him I am watching his progress!

Today I was mainly attacking a mountain of ironing, the house has been like a Chinese laundry for 3 days - are holidays worth it?

Moh, careful folding and pressure during storage can alleviate much of the ironing problem. Even Margaret, my daughter, has recognised this. The days of ironing dusters and tea towels has gone!
Today I shall be doing the chores, doing some gentle engineering in the shed and enjoying my warm house at minimum cost. The new chairs are a great success and I begin to suspect that I was right, less than optimal seating positions were one of the main factors affecting me gammy knee. Early days yet but the signs are very positive.

Me also Sue. You are doing your best....
Isn't this turning out to be a great topic! Never went in the shed yesterday because it was too cold and under my new heating regime the shed gets less CH time and no benefit from the stove. I'm too old to be engineering in less than 50F! So I shall be doing the chores and keeping warm. I shall go and relight the stove now while I think about it. The CH will have knocked off in an hour.
Ten minutes later, stove cleaned out, coal brought in and stove burning up nicely. I've perfected my glass cleaning technique I think. A quick scrape round the edges with a very sharp wallpaper scraper to get rid of the rhick deposits. Spread some Jif ceramic hob cleaning liquid on it. Leave for a minute or two while I light the fire and then clean it with my plastic scourer. Fire burns up with the door off while I'm doing this. Than door back on. One useful side benefit is that I rub the sink over with the pad before swilling it off. This cleans the pad and also gives the sink a quick polish and this regular rub over is beginning to show. My sink was always clean but is now getting a high polish. Nice! Yes, I'm obsessive about my sink!

Helping move the Earby History Society archives to our new "Archive Room" in the New Road Community Centre. The plan is to make them more accessible to the community, with open days, family history days etc.

I have been with dad all morning and my sister is there now. He looks better than he has in weeks. However he still won't eat or drink. He has been talking all morning but most of it is ramblings. Some very interesting!
The reality is he has stabilised but the long term prognosis is much the same. At least he is not in the same distress

Sue, last time I was in Healey Dell was when my mate Peter Tatham was pointing the underside of the viaduct arches. I saw your post about avoiding Old Bett's, That journey across the hill is a bugbear in winter whichever way you go. I had some interesting mornings when I was driving to Rochdale from Barlick and Addingham every day for about twelve years...
Today I shall be keeping warm and once again avoiding walking on slippery pavements! I watch youngsters walking normally on ice while I mince about like an old queen, how do they do it?!

Commiserations Comrade. Sounds as though you have the Full Monty! Susan and I both endured five weeks from the infection date and some of the after=effects still linger. A proper cold, look after yourself.

Been over the border for a few days so catching up with this: Sue hope the acceptance of a high energy drink means your Dad's rallied. Nolic, Get well soon. Stanley your stove glass cleaning had my eyebrows through my hair line..didn't d show you his technique? Spit on some scrunched up newspaper, dip it in the ash and rub it on the glass...works a treat! and can be done whilst your laying the stove in the morning, without havgin to fetch cleaners or wash a sink afterwards! :goodidea:
