I watched it David. Can't argue with anything he said but the principal, 'Circular' or regenerative farming is the same one that mixed farming used to adhere to until it was cast aside as old fashioned. It seems to be back..... A G Street must be laughing has head off. (Look him up....)

No need to . . . .

On the Spooky Scale this must rank as a ten. Whilst looking for the Romany language book - the book 'next door' to it was this - I promoted it to the top of the pending pile. It's getting embarrasingly high. Excuse the flash.

That's weird! On the same subject I looked for George Henderson's book on farming. 'The Farming Ladder and it is selling for ridiculous prices! That and 'Farmer's Progress' are very much aimed at mixed farming.

Now for something completely different. I've heard this several times, but never 'got' the lyrics. I like the hurdy gurdy drone intro. Kind of them to do subtitles. I still don't get it fully, but I like the sound, that'll do for me.

PS: I weakened and Googled. Copperhead Road lyrics meaning Some dispute in the comments, I'm still not fully up to speed, and my hurdy gurdy is in fact bagpipes.

Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only come to town about twice a year

He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
Headed up the holler with everything he had
'Fore my time but I've been told
He never come back from Copperhead Road

Now Daddy ran whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside

Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
When the Sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road

I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first, 'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Columbia and Mexico
I just plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
And now the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from Charlie don't you know
You'd better stay away from Copperhead Road

I think the word I am looking for after reading those lyrics is anarchic.
However, Like you, I quite like the way he sticks to a beat.... Good sound.

I like Country Music, and songs with a strong beat, and a back story. Americans take no prisoners, and expect you to work it out for yourself. This one fits the bill.

Take a look at this, the artist is Mayon, she is a professional Chinese Zither, (Guzheng) player. She always hides her face in various ways.

Take a look at some of her other work as well, impressive.

I've been watching recently a lot of the videos of Lee Kuan Yew. Here's one. He died aged 95 in 2015.

I think there is much our politicians could learn from him - especially his strategic perspective. He looked a long way past the next election. They say the winners write the history, and I'm sure others could give you a different version,. He was also quite ruthless -but does the end sometimes justify the means?

PS Checkout his son the current prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong. Amongst his achievements he was Senior Wrangler when at Cambridge. That's seriously clever.

PPS - I doubt somehow that in years to come people will be watching videos of the life and political philosophy of, say David Cameron, or Keir Starmer. Apart from self interest, I doubt they have one.

Yes seen that one as well David, I have watched quite a few of her renditions. She does one of AC DC's "Thunderstruck"

I also follow this young woman Anna Lapwood who is 29 years old and the master organist at the Albert Hall. She plays pipe organs all around the world. Loads of stuff of her on YouTube and TikTok. Here is a taste:

I'm sure you're right David.

I'm glad younger people are being exposed to the organ. It's long been a favourite of mine.

Here's another behind the scenes video of classic organ. He's not as glamorous but listen to the music!

It's philosophy poetry and music this afternoon. I know at least two of us will enjoy this.
The 'Nostradamus' of the 1960's - Total genius.

"I saw ten-thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken".
Predicton of the interwebthingy in general - and X (Twitter) in particular. :laugh5:
"I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children". Prediction of modern London life.
"I met another man who was wounded in hatred". . . . Not me guv. . . .

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
And where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highways
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard

And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept dripping
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleeding
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten-thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children

And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder that roared out a warning
I heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world
I heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazing
I heard ten-thousand whispering and nobody listening
I heard one person starve, I heard many people laughing
I heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
I heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley

And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

Oh, what did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
And who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony
I met a white man who walked a black dog
I met a young woman, her body was burning
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow
I met one man who was wounded in love
I met another man who was wounded in hatred

And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

And what will you do now, my blue-eyed son?
And what will you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-going back out 'fore the rain starts a-falling
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest dark forest
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison
And the executioner's face is always well hidden
Where hunger is ugly, where the souls are forgotten
Where black is the color, where none is the number
And I'll tell it, and speak it, and think it, and breathe it
And reflect from the mountain so all souls can see it
And I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinking
But I'll know my song well before I start singing

And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall

Good - you could always try doing both. I think that's the best way.

Now here's something that Google directed my way during the hiatus. I found it interesting - it's actually a tribute to Fred Dibnah, but surely of interest to members here. I got a real sense of the size and scale of things, which I hadn't had previously. His major topic theme is meat pies, but he makes a good job of Bancroft. Memorable quote "there's not many people who would have ran these originally, still with us today". Should we tell him? Still amazes me that you got the job without any qualifications in Health and Safety or Diversity and Inclusion.

As in so many things the answer lies in the history David.

CERTIFICATION OF ENGINEERS ON LAND

One surprising fact about steam plant in mills is that there were no official qualifications or even training for persons in charge of the most dangerous part of the mill. Certification for marine engineers was very strict and the qualification was highly prized. In contrast running a similar plant on land was an amateur affair and needed no qualification. It was a job often passed on from father to son and the quality of engineers varied enormously. There were some very good ones but also some duck eggs!
In the late 19th century, after a series of accidents, a Bill was presented to Parliament; '(60 Vict) Steam engines and boilers. Persons in charge.' on 12 July 1897. However the Houses adjourned early because of a visit by foreign royalty, the Bill was dropped and never came before Parliament again. It was a Bill to grant certificates to persons in charge of steam engines and boilers on land along the same lines as the existing Marine Certificates administered by the Board of Trade. There were to be two classes; First Class for anyone in charge of a boiler or engine bigger than 5HP and winding engines of any size. Second Class was for all other boilers and engines except those in agriculture and the Queen's Service.

In passing, some things can't be duplicated. Only the original will do.
