A bit of patching up after the bathroom extractor installation. I had to exhaust through the wall in my office as there wasn't enough room above the bathroom window lintel.

Might as well ask here before I search elsewhere. Has anyone got an off cut of T&G floor board?

I am repairing my back gate and the front catch end panel needs replacing. I only need a 32" length. Top hinge rail needs replacing also but I have timber for that.

Our radiators packed up on the CH. We have a morning boost for the bathroom which is where we noticed it. Traced it to the top radiator in the attic which is slightly inaccessible as it is behind a work table for Sally's sewing and crafting. Pressure was good in the boiler and I managed to get to it to bleed it off, quite bit of air in that one. Topped pressure up again the checked all the other radiators from the top downwards which were all OK. Normal operation restored.

I have just replaced the key for the topping up valve which is a plastic affair that shattered at the business end. Found a replacement at Screwfix in Barlick and picked that up last week.

I knocked my gas board maintenance agreement on the head last year at this time so I have asked our plumbers for dates for a full service.

Been to youngest offspring's to lay a laminate floor in the lounge/diner and hallway. What with moving furniture and removing the old carpet the whole job took around 5 hours. Need a brew now

Nice afternoon so I made a start on my back yard gate repair. Colin gave me two suitable lengths of T&G with slightly different offsets on the tongues and grooves. Fortuitous as it turned out as when I took the outer panel off I found the second one was also water damaged so I got that out as well. I decided not to replace the entire top rail as it double nailed on every panel and it would be a bit of job in itself. I chopped the rail back to good wood.



My replacement timber is not the same width as the original rail although it is the same thickness. I think I will put two verticals as replacement rather than one lateral it will look better. At the end of the day it doesn't have to be posh but serviceable, two verticals will provide a good platform for the latch bits. You can see from the photo that I have not cut the outer panel to width yet. After manhandling the gate on top of my bins as worktop for the work so far I had enough by the time I got to this stage.

It will take a bit of sawing anyway with a cross cut hand saw along the grain. I can plane it up a bit if required after sawing. I also needs a tad more off the bottom.

Thanks Stanley, I'll give it a go while its hung, should be easier straight down rather than on the top of the bins as they are a tad high, Next time the gate comes off I want to paint it and the posts at each side.

Best laid plans an all that! Running off the guide line sawing straight down!

By power saw, do you mean a circular saw Stanley? If so that would be good I could run that on the front face from the bottom to the top and use the outer edge with the guide.

It must be a gate repairing type of day, I replaced a bit of rotten timber and painted the gates at Chez Kev this morning. The paint should be dry before the forecast rain and thunderstorms.

Ian, sorry, only just seen your post. Yes, a Bosch single phase power saw. Here if you want it.

Kev has sorted me out Stanley, not took long, my marking up and Kevs slicing and its bob on for a fit apart from about an 1/8th of an inch on the top rail, I can cut that with my tenon saw. Hung it on two screws to check the fit as it has to come off again for the other bits of timber for the latch furniture and probably two coats of fence paint. A lot further on than this morning.

I went looking for the etymology of 'gazebo' and didn't really get any joy but I tripped over this factoid. "The earliest known gazebos were in Egyptian gardens approximately 5,000 years ago, found in a garden plan which dates to about 1400 BC.". Now there's a thing.....
