It is worth reporting excellent, if not remarkable service. Our son needed a Birth Certificate to sign up with an Employment Agency, having lost his job of 18 years. He has also lost his adoption certificate, which takes the place of a birth certificate, and it was my job to try and get a replacement. I'm used to ordering various certificates from the GRO but Craig was adopted in Scotland and I struggled to find where to order a copy.
On Sunday evening I emailed Scotland's People, a government website where all the Scottish family history resources are available, to ask advice. Yesterday morning before 8.00am I received a reply with the relevant application form attached, I filled it in, paid the fee online, and emailed it back yesterday before midday.
Craig received the certificates (I ordered 2 just in case) by 1st class post this morning! I was gobsmacked.

I saw THIS report.
What would it be like to meet one of our closest human relatives from 75,000 years ago in the flesh? Scientists have produced a remarkable reconstruction of what a Neanderthal woman would have looked like when she was alive. It is based on the flattened, shattered remains of a skull whose bones were so soft when excavated they had the consistency of "a well-dunked biscuit". Researchers first had to strengthen the fragments before reassembling them. Expert palaeoartists then created the 3D model. The representation appears in a new BBC Studios documentary for Netflix called Secrets of the Neanderthals, which examines what we know about our long-lost evolutionary cousins, who became extinct about 40,000 years ago.
I've seen these reconstructions before but this is the best ever, so realistic. I believe them.

BBC Week in pictures: 27 April - 3 May 2024... BBC
I noted this caption: A Kenyan girl next to a damaged car in an area heavily affected by torrential rains and flash floods in the village of Kamuchiri, near Mai Mahiu. At least 45 people died when a dam burst its banks in the Rift Valley.
The Great Rift Valley in Africa is caused by two tectonic plates moving apart. They are moving very slowly on our human time scale but all such movements are characterised by earthquakes. Not the best place for building dams, especially when dams can themselves sometimes cause earthquakes. LINK

A satirical Facebook page about Scotland. It's been causing quite a stir online, one 'story', claiming that the London Eye was being dismantled and moved to Loch Lomond, caused that much confusion amongst Facebook users that Meta had it tagged as false news (of course it's fake :biggrin2:).
I thought I'd join in with my own 'story'

I'm watching (accidentally) an appearance before a ParliamentarySelect Committe of this lady - Sabrina Cohen- Hatton/

She speaks fluently and well - as you might expect with that CV. I've heard a lot about mysogyny, and protected characteristics, institutional racism, etc etc, but nothing at all about putting fires out or rescuing people yet.

She speaks so well and with such absolute confidence, and a total lack of doubt, that a career in politics or more likely a peerage is almost inevitable. I'm trying to envisage her carrying someone down a ladder, over her shoulder, but completely failing.

Formula 1 sometimes gets mentioned here. So in Miami , FL , USA British Driver Lando Norris in a British Car - McLaren takes First Place for his first F1 win , good speed, good strategy and a touch of luck going his way. Well Done and nice to see a little change for a change.

Great news but please think about those of us who bury our heads in the sand until we can watch highlights on Ch4! I don't watch or listen to any news until then and I didn't expect the result to leap out at me on One Guy at 6.30am this morning!!

I'm struggling to imagine when I would find that app useful if they were mine. :biggrin2:
I suppose the thing that has got my attention is the fact that we seem to be turning a corner in respect of temperatures but oh how I wish we could ditch this constant cloud cover!
Wendy, I seem to have lost all interest in Formula 1 racing. At one time I never missed a race, now I couldn't care less.... Funny how our interests change.....

Other than if I actually lost them somewhere (it shows the last location if the battery goes flat or they are turned off) it's probably something I wouldn't use either. I was just highlighting the technology in something so small. Mine are programmed by my audiologist, based on the hearing tests I had when I got them. The app does show battery levels and can be configured to alert me when they're getting low. The actual devices will 'beep' just before the batteries are depleted which isn't always convenient.
