Tiz is close. Remember the wool shop on Frank Street opposite the Pensioners? I think it was Wendy who had it. When she closed down I bought the sheep off her.



No. I haven't got this in the front room! Fairly obvious what it is. Question is did it survive the demolition of the old Co-op building on Albert Road?

Have you noticed that wool (KNITTING) shops are so often owned by "Wendy" and the like ...Aaaah Bless! (I think there's one in Wadebridge....must have a look)
Apropo of nothing in particular , there used to be a curtain shop in Leicester (70's) called "The House of Glide Easy "....

There used to be a brand of wool called Wendy Wool. I found a small pair of scissors in my mum's sewing box many years ago which have a screw which when turned keeps the blades apart - any idea what they would be used for?

It's for stopping them "falling out" with each other when they have nothing to do...you know..like kids do.

As far as I can remember I have never never ever been the owner of a knitting wool shop.......though it would have been nice.

Moh, I wonder whether it was a safety measure to avoid harm if a young child got hold of them? I can remember being puzzled by small cuts on the bottom of curtains at Hey Farm. Our Susan exploring the possibilities of the scissors she had found....

You could use it to mark a vertical plumb line if you hung it on a pin in the wall.

Is it not also somewhere near the standard width of a warp on a Lancashire loom? I reckon it's out of the mill anyway.

Re. the scissors - they cannot cut when screw is tightened but a child could soon tighten it.

All good tries and the carpet/lino one could be right but I favour measuring lengths of cloth because it is a one piece 5ft rule and I found it in the old Co-operative central store on Albert Road.

A dressmakers tape is also 5ft long. Which is why I suggested the cloth connection.

Didn't know that Ian. I assumed it was something to do with the width a sales person could stretch their arms while measuring. Have a look at wildlife topic, Brad forced me to post one of my mystery objects!
